I may have found a source for them, but MOQ is very high, 1,000 pcs. I may try and organize something later, if there’s any interest.

Use a little piece of aluminum foil, just like what you're been doing. I don't know ho big your "massive roll" is on that 20 year old outdated film. You might have 25 miles worth of it. I would think by now it is caveat emptor for the buyer as to how to protect it after purchase and exposure. An Ender 3 printer can make a a half dozen cans and caps a day. Or the buyer can shoot it and wad it up in a piece of scrap paper and put it in their pocket till they get home.

Hi all! I’m currently cutting down the massive roll of Aerochrome I got, and a few folks asked for 120-width film. I have been looking at ways to protect the film from light that can be re-used when the roll is finished. Unfortunately, I don’t have a solution for that. I use aluminum foil to protect rolls now, which cannot be saved for re-use. I know that some companies use black cans to protect 120/220/127, but the only canisters I can find are already branded, so don’t particularly want to use them for rolls I am selling . Does anyone know where to get these canisters? Are they even still made? Or is there someone who just has a massive stockpile selling them off?

The filmphotograpystore.com stocks them. It's $5.99 for a 5-pack. They have a FPP sticker on them that's easily removed.

Not looking for that, just looking for single roll containers, not big ones like this. these will not be for my personal use, they’re for film I sell.

I did actually find this, but I have no idea how the dreaded T word will affect the price, or even if they’ll change, so I’d rather not order from China at the moment if I don’t have to.

I have seen that, but again, it already has branding unfortunately.

Search FreeStyles website, I have purchased single roll 120/220 plastic film containers from them.

I agree. Film manufacturers don't supply you with a reusable container for 120 film. There's no reason you should do any more than Ilford or Kodak does.

Lavials VL20H

I bought a few rolls of Adox 120 film who pack it up in these reusable canisters and I just saw the branding at the bottom. Interesting, and a US made product. Googled around but so far only find the clear version. Found also an early APUG reference https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/roll-film-failure.111333/post-1472679
From Ken's post, this is the same store but only sells them (Black included) in bulk, but there is a reference to Glass Key Photo.

Yeah I saw this, and thought of doing a group buy, but it just seems too niche to be worth it for most folks. I could be wrong, but judging from the response to this thread, doesn’t seem like there’s much interest.

Or, smaller quantities purchase:

Lavials containers in smaller quantities.
ESDplasticcontainers.com now has a selection of Lavials containers with no minimums.

They only have the clear ones, I’ve actually emailed them to ask.

Oh, that’s interesting because on the bulk-buy they show colors. I failed to notice that the offerings are slimmer on the no-quantity site. Sorry.

I actually found that same product a while ago and bought one because there were no minimums, unfortunately it is too small for 120/220 (and the reviews on B&H also say this).

How many of these are you looking for. I might be willing to part with a few. I used them way back when offering wedding/event coverage..

When a friend on the opposite coast was sending me exposed 120 film for developing and scanning we settled on wrapping the individual rolls in aluminum foil, rolling them in 3x5 index cards, keeping the rolls tight with a strong rubber band and mailing them in those envelopes with bubble wrap lining. We never had a problem. A nice plus was that he could include a note on the card about the lighting conditions and exposure information.

Are there cardboard tubes that would do the job?

I’d be looking for 10 of them, but I was planning on shipping the rolls out tomorrow… I’m seriously considering getting a load of these next time I do the astrum order though. Could be good for that film as well.

You could simply wrap each roll individually in aluminum foil, shielding them from unnecessary amounts of light in transit.

If you choose to go the foil wrap way, perhaps foil candy wrappers would be a unique and nice looking option. They can be easily and affordably found in 4x4 and larger squares. Many colors too. Such as

This is what I am doing, they’re already wrapped up. But I would definitely prefer something that could be resealed for after the exposure as well.

You can make one out of two 135m containers. Cut transversally to length, join with duct tape, don't show to anybody if you are afraid of being laughed at

Flip-top plastic cannisters from M&Ms or Skittles are handy enough when you've digested the delicious contents!.. Bonus is the cannisters easily hold a 120 or 220 roll and come in funky colours: pink, black, red, green, yellow, grey, brown...not sure of M&Ms are packaged this way in other countries (or even in the same size), but go have a peek for them in the sweet tooth isle...

Space limitations in my 67 pack mean that I wrap exposed rolls of 120 in pre-cut squares of tin foil and label the roll with its serial number and notes of contents.

The Film Photography Project ones have branding, but they're stickers that are easy to remove. You could probably get them to sell you some without the stickers. I've found their customer service to be excellent and responsive.
