Graham Bennet (GM Bennet here on apug) sent me an email. Apparently Graham is suffering from GAS. I have a solution. For every 12 cameras you buy, you have to sell one. I have a box full of old Kodak Brownies in the basement that should last me a few months anyway.
Tell Graham that I have the bank account open :D
The best way to combat gas is not having budget, none. A car without fuel doesn't run, unless you're going down to a valley.

A friend of mine at work likes old cars. His wife told him he can't have any more. So he asked if I had any spare room in my garage. :D

Idiot me! I forgot...
Tell Graham that if he needs a new storage for his cameras, he can send me some. I promise good use on all kinds of Rangefinders, hasselblads, rolleis, mamiya RB & RZ.

I actually thought I had GAS on the run for a while. I hadn't bought any gear for about 6 mos or so. Last weekend I bought a Zorki 4 at the Hymers Fall Fair. Sonnar copy jupiter 8 lens, and all the shutter speeds work. $25. Just one drink......

Hi I'm Walt and I have GAS...

Attending a support meeting on Apug for photographers with GAS while also surfing for gear on ebay is like going to an AA meeting at happy hour at a bar attached to a discount liquor store.

Hey, when my GAS becomes unmanageable, I'll move on to step 2! Until then, I will quietly surf ebay at the end of a long day, Jameson's in hand. Ah, look - a Nikon FG and 50mm in great shape for $67 BIN. Click.

Running a set of negs from a new (to me) camera is not unlike the feeling you get watching an image appear in the tray for the first time. Graham

Keeping track of how much money you have spent in total so far will help.

GAS is like diabetes; there are treatments, but there is no cure. Sooner or later you will have to have another treatment/camera.

ROFL Dead Link Removed

I relate to both!

I've been in recovery for several years but after reading the above post I poured a heavy shot, maybe two shots, and started surfing for a 6mm Fisheye-Nikkor. Pour...Click...Gulp...repeat....

Denial is not just a river in Egypt

... Gotta Call paypal for a credit card increase. :D:D:D:munch:
:munch:
Damn paypal, it's gonna take a week for them to raise my limit and the auction ends in two days. Thank G-D the kid's tuition fund is in my name--she won't need it until next year anyways.:munch:

SIDE TOPIC: Many years ago when I dealt through PayPal a LOT via eBay sales and purchases they gave me more than $200K credit. I wrote them asking, "WTF? I only make $45K per year with my day job and this eBay thing sure doesn't pay much. Please decrease my credit to $10K so I don't have to worry as much about ID theft!!" They never replied.

Sounds to me like paypal (together with ebay) may be engaging in predatory lending. Not unlike casinos which will gladly give you chips in exchange for your car registration or the equity in your home. It's another reason why so many here on Apug have GAS and are in need of a 12-Step program. They make it just too easy to get hooked and stay hooked.

^^^ No doubt... but I learned a long time ago to avoid such "hooks". OTOH, many people would take advantage and charge that $200K then declare bankruptcy. At the time there were fewer controls and more "easy outs" for such behavior.

And when they declare bankruptcy they go on ebay to sell their gear and ebay a.k.a. paypal take their profit again. The credit pushers know how to manipulate their GAS addicts: --just like the cigaret companies or those who deal in China White know how to control their customers.
