Graham Bennet (GM Bennet here on apug) sent me an email. Apparently Graham is suffering from GAS. I have a solution. For every 12 cameras you buy, you have to sell one. I have a box full of old Kodak Brownies in the basement that should last me a few months anyway.

I learned the art of zen living this year. Buy a shirt, throw out a shirt...etc. For cameras, I have 3 complete sets of different 35mm brands. Anyone want a full manual Nikon kit

You mean GAS is a bad thing????

And here I thought the only cure (temporary) for GAS was to acquire something. :D:D

Does it count if I first buy some Brownies before starting the cure ?

The first twelve cameras you purchase are Brownies as the treatment is not retroactive. Then you sell one. Then you get into the Nikons and Hassys and Cambos and once you buy twelve of them you sell a Brownie. This way you can buy 132 cameras before you need to get another round of Brownies.

This is not a laughing matter. Acquisition is the only cure!

You understand. Welcome to the fold.

boy...... I now fully realize what my philosophy teacher has been talking about....

We do live in a materialistic world!

I'm just flat broke (right now)= current college student. so GAS has left my body for the time being . I had to sell a camera the other day to fund film and paper for my darkroom courses .

I didn't use it all that much (Fuji GW670III r/f) but it was a nice camera none the less.

Oh, boy! So there REALLY IS a 12 Step Program! And it includes "selling a camera." To quote a real estate marketing advertisment; "I'm not familiar with that concept." How is that done? And, even with a Brownie? Although, I thought that you ate a Brownie, especially the ones with the thick chocolate fudge.

The main problem I have with GAS is that it usually produces adverse side affects...
such as my better half screaming intelligably for 10 minutes before finishing with "ANY MORE CAMERAS AND I'M LEAVING!" or "EITHER IT GOES OR I GO!!!"

Obviously, this is a bit of a dilema.

Equally difficult to cope with is the "IF IT COMES OUT OF THE LOFT, IT ISN'T GOING BACK IN!" gambit - which means cameras I have used recently are clogging up my car boot and the garage

Just tell me one thing, why does a woman need 15 pairs of shoes?

My wife needs them to throw at me each time I buy a camera ...

Your nephew's attitude towards printing is part of what scares me about digital. People in the future won't have any idea how we live today except for those of us who do make prints (and keep our negatives).

Hmm Maybe you should remind her that your cameras will hit harder than her shoes
Best regards

I obviously don't get the whole GAS thing... But I like the idea of keeping a spare camera around in case I need to defend myself against flying shoes. Can you actually use that as an excuse to buy cameras?

GAS is like diabetes; there are treatments, but there is no cure. Sooner or later you will have to have another treatment/camera.

Poor Sod!!

A horrid case of GAS.

Count your self lucky, my wife has over 70 yes 70 pairs in their boxes in the closet. But, she doesn't say anything to me when I buy a camera. :D

I do not see a problem here. Show her the door, she will either stop her hissy fit or leave. Either way you are better off.

You earn the money, so you are allowed to get things for yourself. Just because she is not interested in photography is not a reason to stop buying. I am sure she buys things that your are not interested in. Tell her to no longer buy things that you do not care about. The song will change real fast.
