110 Film

Well, what do you know? Walgreen's has lots of 110 film around under its own brand. Kudos to them for keeping this format alive!

It's strange that they say it is a product of Japan because I understand Fuji have ceased producing their 110 film. Maybe they will still make it for other companies like this. It can't be Konica as they've ceased film production and their last 110 film was actually made for them in Germany by Agfa.

Here in the UK you can still get 110 film by Ferrania & Kodak, though it's rarely stocked in shops.

I was under the impression that Walgreens' 110 film was made by Ferrania. I might be misremembering, though, or it might have changed since I last heard about it. When Agfa went under, Walgreens changed from Agfa to Fuji as a supplier of their house-brand 35mm film. It's possible that they didn't change their 110 film supplier, but that whoever updated the Web site (if that's where you're seeing the "product of Japan" claim) got a little over-zealous in their updates.

I've also heard of companies that cut and re-spool film of one format for use in another type of camera. It's conceivable that Walgreens is using such an outfit to respool Fuji film.

Surely that wouldn't work with 110, as it depends on the correct spacing of sprocket holes to cock the shutter on many 110 cameras and also to ensure that the frames fall between pre-exposed frame numbers.

No problem at all getting 110 film in SW England.

Umm, where do you guys get 110 film processed? In the DC area, we couldn't come up with anyone that still processed it, including sending it to Kodak.

it goes directly to fuji and is returned within a few
days. usually costs me $1.79

Yeah, I noticed that too. The last time I bought 110 film at Walgreens, it was all Kodak Gold 400. I haven't bought online, but I'm down to my last 6 rolls, so I may restock and see what happens.

"Kodak" no longer develops or prints from 110 film. I put it in quotes since God only knows who is actually doing the processing. We had a real problem since we stocked the film but didn't have any idea who would processes it... Glad to know there are still some options.

Well, someone is using Kodak paper, Kodak envelopes, and Kodak logos then. Not to mention the Kodak address in Rochester.

It's like the Lenovo laptops - IBM logo, IBM brands (ThinkPad), IBM help software, IBM screen savers, IBM etc..., but it's Lenovo!

Here in the UK Kodak passed their colour print processing service to a large mail order outfit which operates under various names - Bonusprint, Tripleprint etc. For former Kodak customers they continue to provide Kodak labelled mailing envelopes, Kodak labelled print wallets, Kodak labelled CD-ROM's etc. Prints are made on Kodak paper too. I'm not clear whether they still do 110 processing.

As to Disc film, that hasn't of course been made for years and 110 which came out before disc has outlived it. I can't say I'm sorry as my experience with Disc was that the results were quite grainy. APS is still alive as well and Fuji still make it in an 800 ISO speed which you can't seem to buy over here anymore.

I just developed my first roll of 110 today! It was some of the Walgreens special...2 rolls for $5. I took it to work to see if they could do it (I need to push it) and it worked on a 120 dip & dunk rack. I must say...what a terrible size of film! I absolutely hate it...and it was the most fun I've had in a long time! Confused? So was I. Basically, I got a crappy toy camera from China that is essentially a one time use camera that isn't really limited to one time use. Plastic from top to bottom. Total piece of JUNK. And, like I said, the most fun. Go figure!

Now I'm back in Boston with my Auto 110 and can't find film anywhere (Ritz & Bromfield camera almost laughed at me :^) ) I've yet to hit Walgreens however - if I find any I post here again.
There's also the problem of scanning once I've gotten negs done. Can I just put the negs straight on the flatbed & scan them to get jpegs?

I bought some at Walgreens a couple of years ago; however, my local Walgreens' film section has withered substantially since then, and I haven't checked for 110 film recently. It is listed on their Web site, but that's not a guarantee it'll be available in any given store. Of course, you could always just order it from the Walgreens Web site, from B&H, or wherever.

I scanned a bunch of old family photos a while back, some of them on 110 film. I used a Polaroid SprintScan with a custom-made negative carrier (read: a couple pieces of cardboard with appropriately-sized cutouts). This worked fine. I imagine that the trickiest part of using a flatbed for this purpose would be getting the negatives positioned appropriately and not touching the glass. (Negatives touching flatbed scanner glass equals Newton rings problems, in my experience.) You might need to create a custom negative carrier out of cardboard or something.

I cleaned out my local Wal-Mart - they had 20 rolls in stock and I bought them all. I'm going to check out the Walgreen's and Walmart near my work on my way home next week. My local Walgreen's didn't have any a couple weeks ago, but the photo guy said he's getting some in soon.

I recently shot and old roll (expired 1988) of Kodak Royal Gold film in my Pocket Instamatic 92. I then asked the lab I usually send my film to if they could develope it which the could (but they couldn't print or scan them). However I scanned them myself when I got the negatives back and the results was pretty grainy (and some of the negatives was completly useless).

However it was fun to see some result at all and if you are interested in how four of the pictures from an over 20 years and probably badly stored 110-film looks like then visit: Dead Link Removed

I think it is a fun format and I'll buy some new 110-film when I place my next (and first) order at Fotoimpex

If you are still having trouble finding any 110 film it might be worth looking on ebay. Recently someone was selling huge quantities of slightly outdated Konica 110 film (actually made for them by Agfaphoto) at very low prices.

Retro Photographic in the UK, who are a mail order outfit, keep in stock the Solaris brand, made by Ferrania (and in 126 size).

FWIW, I was in my local Walgreens (in Woonsocket, RI) the other day. Remembering this thread, I checked and saw three boxes of Walgreens-brand 110 film. I didn't check the box closely enough to even speculate on who actually manufactured it. If you're in Boston, you're close enough to get to Woonsocket -- but driving an hour each way for three rolls of 110 film seems ridiculous to me! Better to order from Walgreen's Web site, from B&H, or wherever, IMHO.
