How do you print that big? lateral enlarger?

Adding to what Bob said, first the drop bed of De Vere floor standing enlargers gives you close to 8ft from enlarger head to the baseboard (at it's lowest point). Equally important is the choice of focal length enlarger lens.

For 11x14 there's not really a choice only the Schneider or Rodenstock 360mmenlarger lenses cover this format. But for 10x8 both Schneider & Rodenstock 240mm and 300mm lenses cover the format, I have Symmar S lenses in both FL.

Hi Ian , I have 360 mm ,300mm, 240mm, 180mm Apo (needs work) and 150 mm apo all Rodenstock with mounts for all lenses for this enlarger. I will use it for 4 x 5 up to 11 x 14 negs. I also have a mint Devere 5 x 7 for smaller formats but
I think I want to sell it and get back my Omega 4 x 5 with glass carriers for smaller work. I miss this enlarger so much and gave a few of them to a friend, I will give him my Imocan in trade for one of the setups. The resurgence of Black & White Silver due to DIGITAL NEGATIVES is very surprising and welcome to me, We use enlarger and digital negs for work and the fact we print from digital capture to silver is creating a huge interest in my community here in Toronto.

So after 33 years of building darkrooms and moving and collecting gear to use this is my current setup , My wife and I live two floors up from this sanctuary, between us is the gallery , framing area and Phase one digital copy room.
everything in this room has a purpose and as you can see I am specializing in 30 x 40 prints and under and using a variety of process, Silver, Cyanotype , Palladium, Gum over layers of all three and Inkjet printing.

Brilliant! I recognize the places from your YouTube videos. Nice space you've got there. Pretty tidy, too, given the variety of chemistry and processes you work with. Bottles and boxes tend to pile up easily when doing this sort of thing.

The silver gelatin from digital negatives, are those mostly/only contact prints, or also enlarged?

With inkjet negatives they only work IMO is by contact. If you want to put them in an enlarger then I would purchase a LVT recorder negative, few shops do this now , I know that is how Salgado did Genisis by 4 x5 LVT then into the enlarger, but I do not do this .

Thanks; that's why I wondered because you'd have been the first to enlarge inkjet negatives with any acceptable fidelity. Contact printing sounds sensible.

It's Bob's huge man cave literally, having had the pleasure of being shown around, I guess the 515 is technically a 15"x12" enlarger which as our largest standard plate camera size here in the UK. All the 5 series floor standing De Vere enlargers use the same column etc and are huge beasts, I had to cut some timbers out to allow my 5108 to reach full height in the apex of my darkroom roof, Looks like you've done something similar Bob above the 515,

Hi Ian, when we moved here we had to cut the floor and extend into the main floor, not easy or cheap. we have a walk out backyard parking so this unit actually has floor drains.. Next purchase is Huge Washer so I can do 30 x 40 inch murals . this Room is very busy these days , when you visited we were doing a 10th of what we are doing now with wet printing, a lot of work setting up the hybrid workflow, you will notice I got rid of the lambda. I believe you visited my last location, we moved to the west end of Toronto and actually live work in the same building, I roll out of bed , and when ready walk downstairs to work, its really nice having my wife and puppy so close its made my life much more enjoyable to live work in the same building, we got rid of our car as everything we need is within a short walk.

I like the digital negatives as it allows us to work with all types of systems as well we can use any paper or process with ease.

Hello Ian --- Regarding contact printing a digital negative onto Ilford VC, can the Easy Digital Negatives method be adapted?

Sorry, I mean Hello Bob, of course

I use Righard Boutwells software with quadtone rip so I only have experience with this, the first calibration done for me was by Ron Reeder himself in my shop, we used that curve for 8 years for all process we do, and then just around Covid I had Greg Brophy make me a new curve which we use today.
