1/4 Plate Petzval Lens. I believe this is from the Daguerreian era but cant prove it. I dont believe its a Magic Lantern lens based on its construction and narrow lens hood. This appears to be of early French origin (pre 1860s). Lens is complete with ALL parts and original flange and including the rear element spacer which is commonly missing, except two screws are missing that hold the drive to the lens - see photo. No impact, lens focuses fine and the other two screws are holding everything in place firmly. Glass is VERY clean and clear however, there are wispy cleaning marks and age to the glass. Nothing that will hurt images made with this. Again glass is sparkling clean.
Both front and rear elements have the identical pencil marks from the maker. I cant make out the marks. looks like a few initials - see image. Focal length appears to be right at 6 inches. One unusual construction detail is that the screw on the rear has been ground down to a smooth finish - see arrow. Normally they screw head is just left showing. $ 279 plus shipping. paypal only. email dan@AntiqueCameras.net.
