My Hasselblad repairman has told me to fire every shutter 10 to 15 times at the slowest speed every three months. Dry firing between rolls of film is and excellent idea.

Unless the shutter will not fire, that would be my first move followed by shoot in a roll of film to check out the relative shutter speeds.

I would avoid putting even a little oil on the threads especially for camera equipment.

My experience it is usually the first drop but I give about half a turn or a full rotation and that usually enough on the first attempt.

Alas even just sitting on the shelf 4"x5" Speed Graphics, Crown Graphics and Graflexes increase in mass as we get older.

The Speed Graphic was meant to be used hand held and not set up on a tripod for field work although it is very capable on a tripod. Shooting hand held helps one learn to work very quickly. Thus the name Speed.

That turned digital decades ago, hence the lack of financial support to HIE and IR Ektachrome.

Shoot street lit scenes at night with no correction. I did that for years using the Jiffy Night Calculator for tungsten slide films.

12 shots would be a way to test a camera. Not much more.

In my career I design, built and put into space a number of infrared electro-optical sensors. A digital camera without the so called "hot filter" can potentially take some spectacular infrared images. I look forward to seeing them and comparing the results with HIE, Rollei IR 400 and IR...

What is in my freezer: Discontinued film that I bought up all I could when each film I wanted was discontinued. I keep those from the hoarders. Film I buy on sale, not short or out dated, when I see a need to restock. Film I buy as a type is beginning to run low. I use what is in the freezer...

It is a tough career. I loved the press cameras and flashbulbs going off when I was going up, but as I got older I chose a different career and not that of a commercial photographer either.

New bureaus do not care when they do not have to pay for photographs.
