If one takes to time to run down all the paths, EI in not needed for modern films, just basic start with the box speed and use a light meters. Then if necessary adjust for getting the shadow details [not all shadow details add to a composition, sometimes basic black is great], and adjust for...

    Tripod recommendation for Leica M

I have used Induro for five to ten years and found their carbon fiber tripods equal to the big brand tripods at a lower cost. There equipment is interchangeable with all the major brands. Lighter, lower cost, well built and interchange ability. What more could one ask?

I was introduced to a grain focuser at Kodak and found it allow the grain to pop into focus. I prefer the Peak Focusers. https://www.peakoptics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=64 They are brighter and easier to use. The also work well in the corners. I put is on a piece for...

So using the box speed is a good start. Then learn how to use a calibrated light meter.

Still not true. That is why digital fakes it with HDR.

A Hasselblad will provide the square format in the perfect camera, but it will merely make you wait longer between buying lenses. Once you move to Hasselblad, you will never look back.

    Hasselblad 500C

The Hasselblad fits well in most peoples hands. Square is the perfect format. So go square and by the Hasselblad. I cannot comment on the price.

    Is straight photography dead?

I agree that any change should not be made to the photograph, if it changes the meaning of the photography.
  23. Sirius Glass

    Is straight photography dead?

Not a major deletion that changes the meaning of the photograph but it is a slippery slope. See post #225 which is why the photographs should be shown as photographed. Also just because something was done in the past does not justify in the present - for example slavery.
