I just did my first sets of contact-prints last weekend, 4x5s on 5x7 paper, held down with just the betterscanning ANR glass from my scanner, I let the edges burn to a nice black.
So far just MGiv Pearl, cheap and cheerful in a box of 100, same as I use in 8x10s for enlargements (only the best...
I have scanned the same negative in both scanners. The Betterscanning holder for the v500 will help for a lot less than a v700, and will also allow scanning more med format frames at once, as the channel is longer. The Epson holder for the v700 is still not so good for curled negatives and the...
The dark lines all the way across the image are power lines. I did pay for them to get scanned (and developed, since school has been out I have had no were to develop my B&W photos). The lines seem to be on the negative. I would be pissed if this happened because they developed it wrong. Thanks...
...are also darkish lines horizontally across, is that the problem? I see a similar thing on #5. I've had that happen on my v750 with the betterscanning wetmount holder, if the holder is not aligned properly the light gets confused and you can scan weird dark/bright lines into it. Or they could...
Hi Matthew,
If the whole package is still available I'll take it at $475.
If you sell the Betterscanning holder to Nuff, (boo hoo), could you give me a price for the set minus the extra holders.
I am in the process of arranging a drop off point for the RZ67 in Archerfield if that is...
I paid nearly $600 to get my v750 from the EU, then the same Betterscanning holder on top of that.
This is a bargain in comparison (too bad I don't need another one).
I am selling my Epson V700 scanner, purchased in 2012- complete with original box and all original materials, manual etc. Also included is the Better Scanning 120 insert with ANR glass worth $110.Huge box so pick up Brisbane preferred. Can post in Australia at buyers expense.$475 pickup
...on f/8, 1/350s, 10s-timer-release. All focussed wide open in the middle, and stopped down manually.
All are wet-mounted neg scans, Betterscanning holder in v750, Silverfast AI (yes, the colours look different in some, that's the scanner/software not the lens, but this is not a test of...
...own a V600 and an Epson 4990. I use the V600 to scan my 35mm film and I hate the results. I bought the ANR glass inserts from betterscanning and some film stills culrs up under the weight of the glass.
I recently started shooting 8x10 and using the 4990 you end up putting the negative on...
Starting point?
Thanks for the info. I've got the Digitiliza's for 35 and 120, and a V700 on the way from Epson. Just curious as to how thick you ended up making up those shims? I assume the required value can vary a bit from scanner to scanner, and I will need to do test scans and adjust the...
...knows, that is not how you extract the best from these scanners - and yet their numbers are routinely quoted as gospel around the net. In my opinion, 2300 dpi is almost certainly understating the real optical performance of the Epson V750 when used with a properly adjusted betterscanning holder.
Hi hoakin1981... sounds like you are experienced with scanning, as you are already using the Betterscanning products. The Epson V700 holders have a crude height adjustment. In the absence of height adjustments on the holder, I guess the only way is to use a negative that you know is sharp...
...more from film...As for your advice to check the film holder and scan focus, sure! but do I go about doing that? I already have the betterscanning +ANR glass kit for the 120 format shots but such a kit is n/a for the 35mm. So, how do I adjust scan focus with the 35mm film?
@Alan Klein...
...from the v600 is the film holders, as Alan points out. However, if you invest another $80 or so, you can purchase the aftermarket Betterscanning holder for the v500, which allows you to scan an entire strip of 3 6x6x or 4 6x4.5 or two 6x7 at once. The betterscanning holder also has anti...

usually with transparency scanners it isn't the scanning lens that is toosmall, there isn't a 2nd lens the scanner uses to
scan film / chromes it is an illuminated lid. the lid illuminates the film so the scanner's optical eye records it illuminated
not "flat art / reflective" it...
...and so you end up having to use the film directly on the glass (instead of raising it up in a holder) [and yes I'm familiar with the betterscanning stuff] so the image quality is lower as you're using the lens meant to scan prints, not scan negatives. The largest film you can scan with the...
...of the negative under the space between the tube portions. Epson supplied a diffuser door on their holder to counteract that, but the Betterscanning holder lacks the diffuser. I have experimented with vellum paper and other diffuser materials, but some uneven streaks still appear in the...
I temporarily find myself in the position of having access to three Epson flatbeds: the old 4180, a v500 and a v750. I also have a Betterscanning holder with ANR glass that I purchased for the 4180 and v500, and I was able to use it with the v750 also to do a comparison. I chose a good sharp...
...all my prints thus far were glassless 135, and all my scans were either edge-holders or wet-mounted).
I'm well used to wet-mounting my BetterScanning holder on my v750, with Aztec mylar and Lumina fluid (can't get Kami fluid in Australia, some mailmen have a thing against delivering Petrol...
jeeves scans everyting for me not sure what he uses
maybe a howlertech? it takes all day for one scan since
he always scans at 96000 dpi TIFF FILES
itold him i only print stuff for the webforums
and the atari can't handle all those dots
but he insists that i have to scan big so the 72dpi image...
...just posted is from my Minolta SMPro at 4800 dpi, film is HP5+, developed in Rodinal 1:50 most likely. Camera lens was a Dual-Range Summicron 50/2 at 5.6 or 8. I would highly advise that you invest in a betterscanning holder...your flatbed scans will improve dramatically once you get it...
...for both verticals and horizontals, unlike all other 6x7s.
I would also highly highly recommend investing the $80 or so to buy the betterscanning holder for your scanner. the improvement may be more significant than even the negative size increase depending on how much the focus is off on...
Thanks for the recommendation, Philip. I don't see any 35mm Betterscanning holders, although they do make one for medium format that looks quite appealing. They do offer some 35mm ANR Glass pieces, although they seem to be designed for use with Epson's original holders.
Anyway, it sounds like...
