Have you attempted to tune the Epson holders using the adjustable feet on the bottom? I'm kind of surprised to see that big of a difference between the OEM holder and the BetterScanning.

...But the clarity and sharpening can be increased both in scan and post scan, but I didn't do either. I'm also lazy so the betterscanning can also probably be tuned in MORE, I just don't have the patience to mess with it.
The V750 comes with all the holders AND Silverfast 6 which can be...

The scan at 3200 with betterscanning holder and ANR glass cropped 1:1 ...
It's certainly not super great, this was Provia 100F, I seem to do a lot better with B&W film than...
yes I've recently been using them for my 120 but I don't own any 35mm yet, though I may just get a large 8x10 piece of ANR as it seems to work perfectly in the "wet scan" holder just placing the film on that and then putting the ANR glass on top.
...a Craigslist there?
I agree about the film holders but again you aren't as specific you might not care, I spent the extra $ on the betterscanning holders (no spaces) with ANR glass, the website is really jumbled but one 120 adjustable holder and two ANR glad for MF or one 35mm holder with 4...
...figure out a good way to, as they don't make (or I don't know where to get) a 116/616/70mm holder for my epson, I have to use the 120 betterscanning holder and glass and sort of fiddle with it and put it in funky places... it usually seems to get me something better than nothing, this seems...
...base, and I'm terrible at analyzing a negative color image.
The epson v750 is really nice but the holders suck, you have to buy the betterscanning variable height adapters and ANR glass. I've learned this the hard way and now have to re-scan because I was trying to be cheap :)
But of all...
...(each holds one strip) can fit, maybe three on the 750. They also allow scanning of the sprockets if that floats your boat.
I still use my betterscanning holder when I want ultimate flatness and precise placement, but these things are fast and easy, which is all I need for a lot of my scans.
...is an issue for you, but you could check for yourself. The Epson on the other hand definitely needs the adjustability offered by the betterscanning holders.
If you are attaching the film directly to the glass, you will need ANR glass to avoid Newton's Rings, or you will need to wet mount, or...
Thanks! That helps.
Probably because I sent him a crazy email saying his I didn't understand his site and he would attract more customers with a site that makes more sense and he never responded so I assume I pissed him of lol.
So what about his "T mount" things?

The Noteworthy Ones...
Hi Stone,
It's simple. Get the Betterscanning Universal Mounting Station, with the dry mounting option (that is basically the same product but with ANR glass). Get enough black masking sheets for all your formats (they are basically just thin but heavy black paper - you cut out an opening for...
Well the 70mm I shoot I certainly needs something that will keep it flat and epson doesn't have a tray for that. But I like the perf on the 70mm, it's interesting and would like to scan it as part of the image (as a quaint printing look/option) so...
I find the site VERY confusing and I can't...
You'd get better flatness with the betterscanning wet/dry mounting system (film taped under ANR glass, essentially perfectly flat). You'd get better flatness (but not perfect flatness) from the Digitaliza holders (they grip the film magnetically along the whole length, and leave enough exposed...
...seems PERFECT there's edge to edge sharpness, I've only done a few tests so far but, my question is, is it worth it for me to get the betterscanning holders since I'm getting crisp results? I do hate the shoddy epson holders and they do require some finagling, but I don't have any newton...
...the provided holders never get you into the sweet spot. For other units, the plane is excessively high, with the same result.
The betterscanning holder is the most elegant solution to the problem. But you can achieve the same result as I described above, it is just more painful. I went the...
...pretty sure the depth of field on the scanner lens is meant to be a bit above the glass plane....
And like the next guy said, ANR or betterscanning stuff...

...construction paper or cardboard on the other side of the ANR glass to reduce flare, and you're done.
This is essentially what the Betterscanning mounting station does, but it has a minimum height (due to its mechanical construction) that may be too high for you. If so, the above is...
I don't buy the argument that production of an upgraded holder would stymie Epson. More likely it would amount to admitting the stock items were sub-par. Good enough is fine by them.
Just remember than Nikon killed Coolscans for equally practical reasons: demand, rather lack of it. I wish...
...case for it on a return-on-investment perspective.
I wish they could have, because I agree their holders suck. But consider the Betterscanning holders - they are made individually, by hand. No way an Epson marketing dweeb would be able to make that argument to the company and prove a good...
Doubtful. It's not like Epson's a stranger to making negative holders. Their stock holders are ridiculously flimsy and it's a stretch to see much of a challenge in designing an upgraded product. Good news for Betterscanning and their holders, I guess.
Actually, quite a lot, probably. Spend a small amount of time considering what it takes to bring a product from concept through design into production, marketing, and support.
I can fully understand why Epson might not add such a thing to its accessory list, but instead, leave it to after...
Still surprises that Epson, especially for its hi-end photo flatbeds, never bothered with an upgraded holder a la Betterscanning with a chunk of AN glass. I mean, how much could that cost?

...for this to work. But get used to how it works first before you shim it to perfect height.
For perfect flatness, nothing beats the Betterscanning universal wet/dry mounting system. With the Epson, you can generally get away with just dry mounting if you make sure to get the wet/dry option...
...or make sure to compensate for 1/2 the thickness of the blade when calculating your shims
-- Make sure you measure the height of your film holder so you know how much to shim by.
This method would work great with a betterscanning holder...you've already got the screw height adjustment.
