For those of you who develop your own film......
Wondering if what a lab told me is true.
I wrote to them because I noticed that the edge info for two 120 FP4 rolls (in same job sent to them) looked very different. On one roll, it was very faint, barely legible. I figured that meant that roll...
Here’s the LUT. It’s for mgfb classic warmtone glossy, in a Durst L184 condenser enlarger with bare opal bulb. No filtration at all. My 8x10 exposure time is 128s at f11, which is right on the upper end of tolerable. I will likely have to find a brighter light source if I continue, just to have...
I've been making slow progress on this project. Everything has gone smoothly so far.
I managed to get the video driver configured which took a few days 'cos the Sumaopai suggested one was not quite right ( will post mine for reference).
I made a frame for the lcd screen out of layers of...
I am planning to build an LED light source for my enlarger and came across your extensive answer. Thanks you very much for info like this.
I don't mind working with filters, for now I would go the easier way with warm white COB LED.
Do you have any idea how to diffuse light from small LED like...
The fact that you'll only do B&W helps to keep things simple!
Good; this gives you a simple option you could consider, as the former will be a little easier. Components would be something like this:
* 20-50W warm white COB LED for direct AC operation; something like this...
The manufacturers information is 16"x12" trays are slightly oversized for 16"x12" paper.
In the US glass plate sizes were Quarter plate, 5x4, 7x5, 10x8 14x11, but here in the UK we used Quarter plate 5x4, Half plate, Whole plate 10x8, 12x10. 15x12. So our paper sizes matched the plate sizes...
My fairly recent 12x16 Paterson trays (2020 purchased, typePTP326G with EAN code 5022361010493) will perfectly accomodate a sheet of Fomaspeed Variant 12x16", while still maintaining a little free space on either side of the paper.
A little bit more in the length than in the width, but it's...
SOLD
Paper Safe (Soligor) for 8x10 - Two Trays. Stackable - interlocks - if you have others like it. Automatically feeds one paper at a time. Small footprint (see photos).
Works especially well with RC paper; Works well with Ilford FB paper, less so with Foam for some reason.
$20.00 plus...
I think there is some interesting discussion in that video, but being twice translated, I could not really make much sense out of much of it. I don't speak Italian, so I read the machine generated transcript, which was machine translated to English. Hopefully, someone fluent in Italian can give...
https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/deciphering-ilford-paper-code.141707/
Not sure if this is correct interpretation for date codes but I used it for fresh paper and chemistry bought over the years and it has always shown relatively recent dates for newly purchased supplies (within 2 years).
That’s good to know, and disappointing too because I have about a dozen more rolls with the same batch code that’ll probably have the same problem. They expired two years ago, so using them for anything important is probably not a good idea. 😦
It could be however I only purchase Kodak and Ilford in 120 black and white film. It came out of an FP4+ box however I was wondering why FP4+ was missing on the edge printing too. This was stock from the pandemic so who knows what film was actually in the box. this makes way more sense than...
@Stephen Benskin Thank you for yet another fantastic demo. I have wondered myself what motivated Adams and others to leave out camera flare entirely from the Zone System and other B&W paradigms. Speaking of subsequent sources rehashing Adams, this pictures sums it up pretty well. He was larger...
Yes, you are correct. Thank you for pointing it out. I am a bit disappointed with Rodinal's performance. I was not expecting this type and degree of curve distortion. Last summer, I tested Rollei R09 One Shot and Adox Rodinal to see if they produce similar results, and, in this type of...

PAPER has been...
I just made a print a few days ago. On the back is written in fine tip permanent black marker along the bottom edge:
A50-10 12s, G3, +5s to sky, MGIVRCWT 2015 Huron River Near Willow Road
I use the Omega letter system to denote enlarger size to identify film sizes.
A = 35mm or smaller
B = 6...
Labels do three things:
1) they stiffen and strengthen the standard weight Ilford RC paper sufficiently enough to permit using that paper for postcards without envelopes;
2) they provide a spot to hand write on the back of the prints, if you choose; and
3) they allow you to print your address...
It's similar to that one but a slightly different spec. The guy who did all the testing used a Stouffer step wedge and densitometer to check density. I believe the contrast index for Grade 5 was within 0.01 units (don't recall the units he was using) of the grade 5 strip he made using actual...
Will be restocking my darkroom after moving 2 years ago and rebuilding it over the last 6 months.
Would anyone be able to share a recent date code (using the on line tool) that shows it was made in the last 6 months or so? I would like to use when ordering to determine how fresh the supplies...
I had mottling issues (small dark specs in negs, white specs in positive images) starting in 2020. I was in touch with Ilford in late 2020 continuing into early 2021. My contact there was extremely nice. She sent a lot of replacement film, and we discussed the issue at length.
For me, storage...
Old ORWO tended to use Plastic Scew Cap Cassettes, BUT it is hard to put a DX code on those. as far as the film cans, I do recall that several brands used a Aluminum, or a steel or aluminum outer film can. Last Aluminum film CASSETTE I recall were some from Ilford with 1960-ish expiry dates...
Interesting. I have boxes of old, donated MG IV RC. It was made by Ilford Ltd and has the old, four digit German Postcode (Zip Code) on the packaging. These were replaced by five digit codes on 1.7.1993 (7/1/93).
The paper, probably stored in a basement without refrigeration, works ok, btw. I...
Thanks for the information. I'll have to look at my boxes to see if the batch code matches yours - I order my postcard paper from Freestyle but it may have been the same issue.
Of all the cameras for sale, the Pentax K1000 with the single 50mm f/2 lens is the one I would suggest as the best available there. Code 7162215 is their number. The price is approximately $145.00 Australian which is slightly cheaper than the same camera in Australia. The standard lens takes...
No, but I have grabbed the one included in a box the first time I've used that type of paper and keep it for reference. After that, not so much, so there is a bit of a balance there. Ilford could included it in things like 25 sheets of 8x10 or 5x7 as those likely would be used by a...
Thanks! I'd love to collect as much data as I possibly can. Right now I can only validate my code against my own enlarger, and numbers from another app with similar functions.
I've actually done calibration for a few paper/filter setups myself (Ilford RC MGIV and the new MG V) for my RH...
