So does that mean that PQ developer purchased in June 2019 was dead but MG developer which was at least a year older and might have been much older was OK You have given us dates for both developers but appear to know the purchase date of the PQ only. Is this right? You cannot be sure of the...

    Ultrafine Brand (film and chemicals)?

I did get both the 120 and 35mm version of Ultrafine extreme and both are produced with packaging that is identical to that used on Ilford products. (same spools, same backing paper, same die cut on the sealing labels same typeface on the DX code barcode on the cassette. I have been working on...

Anyone recognize this film? See picture...

Hi Trask, It's deffo Ilford or Harman-made backing paper, I have an old roll of their 120 paper in my hand and the printing is identical. Ilford 120 film backing paper doesn't have the film name printed on it so unless the remains of the unexposed paper band are at the other end, the only thing...

Ilford 120 Backing Paper Issue? (Edit: probably not)

This is absolutely a backing paper issue with Ilford films. It seems to happen more with FP4 and Pan F, but I've seen it on HP5 and XP2. They are aware of it. I'm copying an email response from them in December about this exact issue. FWD: I’m unfortunately recognising the spots/mottled...

Craziness - using LEDs to print RA4 (and B&W)

At some point earlier this year, I kind of lost my mind and dived into a hole that was a bit deeper than I anticipated (otherwise I wouldn't have done it, probably). I went and created an RGB LED light source for my old and (t)rusty Durst 138s. I'll share some of my experiences in this thread...

Standalone Windows Digital Negative Profiling Application

    Ilford: behind the film

Some of the markings on the backing paper exist to guide the machine that packs the film, (this is true of any maker, and in fact for many other types of Packaging machinery in many industries) What that Implies is those marks will appear on any packaging that is done using that particular...

    Bulk Loading Question

Since the Boxes are cut with the same shape flaps as Ilford, the cans on 35mm are the same as ilford, the foil pack on the 120 and the backing paper are the same as ilford, the middle digits of the bar code on the 35mm casettes are the same as Kentmere, even the font beside the bar code is the...

Durst Laborator 1200 - LED Conversion

Hello everyone, While I'm waiting for the crowdfunding campaign for my darkroom timer project to reach its completion (7 days to go), I've been busy with a few other projects. One of them you'll find here in this thread: an LED conversion to my friend's Durst Laborator 1200 enlarger...

    Less glossy FB Paper

If you like warmtone papers, Foma offers some FB papers that could be interesting for you. I have recently seen samples of the #2 surface of the Fomatone MG classic (FB) paper that is relatively close to the Ilford RC satin surface. The Foma paper code ist 132. Then there is another Foma...

Lack of contrast with Adox Variotone Paper

An update to this thread I started. I got in touch with Adox and discussed the problems I was having with the contrast of Variotone. Turns out my paper was a bit over five years old according to the date code on the package. Reprinting with a newer batch of Variotone paper gave me contrast...

Bulk film more expensive than rolls?

That is roughly what my experience is. Kodak is just not set up to sell bulk film. Also photo finishers would give me a hard time about returning the reusable cassettes. I gave up bulk loading after many years of shooting 100 ft rolls of Ektachrome in Europe and processing in the US.

Sporadic frame counter on early Kodak Monitor 620.

Hello: I hope I can pick up some information here. I purchased a Kodak Monitor, #3794, lens #6400. It might be a 1939 model as it doesn't have the CAMEROSITY date code on it, & I've heard that the date codes didn't start until 1940. Anyway, the shutter, a No 1 Supermatic, is good, & the bellows...

Warmtone papers as Agfa Record Rapid substitute

When the Cadmium was removed from Record Rapid there was no change in the paper base and when Record Rapid was effectively replaced by MCC the base was still the same. The Agfa code for Insignia was 111 which was the code for Record Rapid in the rest of the world, Agfa must have tried to...

    Merry Christmas to me!

Lovely camera, have the same model, vintage 1946. Also have a 4x5, which is usually put on a tripod, as the 3x4 is lighter, and I use it more like a press camera. My 3x4 was my dad's which I resurrected several years ago, and love it for that reason, and the awesome shots I've made with it...

Statement from Harman Technology regarding recent sale to Pemberstone Ventures Ltd.

B/W film is not 1970's technology it is 1880's technology that get's continuously refined, but what's wrong with that the new Boeing 787 has the Nose of the DH Comet 1940's technology just because it is old doesn't make it obsolete. Digital machine code is even older than film technology yet...

Ilford product codes -- how to read them?

As far as I know you can read Ilford paper codes to determine age( to an extent as the code repeats itself every few years) but I have never seen any one claim to have cracked the product codes.
