Leica IIIc modification?

Hello all,

There is a Leica IIIc listed on the auction site with a hole in the inner bottom plate which looks to have been professionally or factory made. I thought it might be a modification for some accessory, but an internet search reveals nothing. The seller is a Leica seller, but he doesn't know what it is. Any ideas?

My IIIC has this one I found on google with an E. Leitz NY plate on it

I think one of the IIIC groups on facebook mentioned it was for being able to use some flash attachment?

Ah, that seems to be it. It was called the SELSY. Some information here and an image showing what appears to be the connection to the body here. Thank you!
