Water spots with and without deionised water?

Hi all, it's early days, but just hanging at an angle (all else being equal) has resulted in spotless negs so far with very sky heavy rolls - and end frames specifically. To summarise my wash and dry process: - Ilford wash with tap water, no soaking (to clear chems) - Two extra Ilford washes...

Thanks Maris and sorry I can't respond to everyone. We may start a movement here with the angle idea lol Those are the ones.

Thanks Brian, I was going to ask where you got those clips from but found them. Exactly what I had in mind.

Thanks. Also, since you mention you had these issues on last frames similar to me, wondering why cutting the film up did not solve your problem? Have you tried that again since? Wondering if that might be less faffy than hanging at an angle.

Brian, I'm taking your advice very seriously. I found it relatably funny how you kept thinking you'd fixed it. The angle trick makes a lot of sense, but I will report back this week hopefully. What I am confused about now though is your distinction between differential drying marks and...

Good shout yeah. I think this further supports the differential idea then as most plausible, given same marks are visible with and without deionised and with different Ilfotol dilutions tried.

Water spots with and without deionised water?

I'm in a very soft water area and can't see deposits on the surface of the film. But I have to say I am borderline conspiracy theorist about UK water atm and better filtration is a good shout generally. I'm first trying simple drying stage adjustments before looking at water supply again...

Water spots with and without deionised water?

Thanks all. Differential marks make the most sense to me from the suggestions and looking at the pattern. As such, I am going to keep all else equal and fashion a way to hang the film at an angle. I've not shot quite as much, but I have never had an issue with these marks on sheet film (which I...

Water spots with and without deionised water?

Thanks Brian, yeah hanging an angle has been a thought as all that water is draining for quite a while and I'm not getting any excess off at all, just hanging. I have reduced wetting agent quite a bit already but will give that a shot too. It's interesting the differing opinions on the...

Water spots with and without deionised water?

Yeah it's fresh fixer. Something I have just considered is that I have a bit of an OCD habit atm of once I've poured out the fixer, then poured in the first wash water, before I start the wash I take the reel out of the tank briefly to check it has fully fixed, put it back in, then begin wash...

Water spots with and without deionised water?

As I say, this is what I am struggling with. I am unable to see it when reflecting the light off either surface of the film. It does appear like it's just in the developed image in this respect.

Sorry, I edited my post after you replied to say they are dark which indeed may be instructive. See attached

I scan and wet print. Just to be clear, I can see the marks "in" the negs when inspecting on the light box and indeed they are dark, but I cannot see deposits as such on the surface of the film. And yes, the spots appear to follow the orientation of the film when drying and being only on the...

Water spots with and without deionised water?

First of all, great to see this community still very active. I've recently been battling a water spot problem as shown in the attached. I thought I got rid of this about two years back with a filter on my tap. Of note: - This is 120 HP5. Image attached is top right of frame 10 (6x6). Usually...

    Dark spots, HP5 120

Intermittently I see these spots on negs, visible in skies typically. They show up on the print and I can't spot them (at least with RC - too poor for fibre atm). I know there were some reports like this earlier in year with other Ilford films, but perhaps this is something else. Any hints...
