Pretty cool, I have one of those cubes as I used to work in the development of lcd projectors, never thought it could be used to do trichrome photography (but then, I'd like to try IR trichromes, and these cubes wouldn't work for that :) ).
Regardless, cool project!
Or a Horseman Convertible, without movements :D
Built a sort of Horseman Convertible myself, which uses large format lenses on focusing helicoids and Horseman Graflok backs (6x7, 6x9 and 6x12).
Indeed, engineering is about trade-offs, no other camera comes close to being as robust, "compact" (hard to say with a straight face given it's size), and lightweight while being able to produce negatives this big.
The drawback is not being able to change lenses, not being able to look through...
I came across some (used) oversized professional ball heads on eBay and that got me thinking, then I checked out Amazon and saw that they have some there which are maybe a bit less durable, but new and at half the cost.

It's giant and quite solid on top of my...
Definitely! It's a sort of springy "Sssproinggg" , do wish that is was a bit quieter, will need to pay attention to see if it is different between my Mk.III GW and Mk.I GSW.
Keen on hearing how you get along with it, I love the GW690 for street photography and the GSW690 for landscapes, but the slighly more cropped in look of the 670 might work well for street also. Something like a 50 rather than a 40, and two extra frames obviously.
Just for my understanding, not planning to build it, after the design, how does one go about and build this? Based on the recipe that you made can you "simply" order those lenses, are there standard components available? How does that work?
+1 , even though I have a couple of different tips for my soldering station, most used, also for small stuff, is the 3mm chisel tip. Apart from temperature, the duration of the heating is a factor, and a bigger tip can help to make a solder connection quickly.
I think connecting a resistor and a...
Fujifilm GW690 mk3, relatively compact for the negative format, incredible lens, speedy enough (F3.5).
Love my GSW690 also, also a great lens (although not a very fast lens). Wish it was a mk3 because the shutter lockout is helpful. Both of them eat film with only 8 frames per roll (and a...
Not even a financial incentive? Sheesh, I think I got something like 1500 euros for my two patents as the company I worked for had a programme to reward registration of IP.
Regarding Ralphs question, and without being an optical designer (but a mechanical engineer), how do you define "better"?
Engineering is about tradeoffs, like indeed weight reduction, material choices, sharpness, corrections, maximum aperture, cost, what is important to you might be irrelevant...
At a previous employer, there was an instance where we did not want to file for a patent (because as you mentioned, people will then be able to see or reverse engineer the invention), and we did want to prevent others filing a patent, so the guys at the IP office put an ad in a tiny local...
