What 35mm camera would you recommend for the cost of a meal?

You pay far too much for lunch. How about a Pentax SPF for 4 USD? edit - with the 55/1.8.

A Strange Thing Happened Canon New F1 in the cold (London cold not real cold)

Around here, temp.s can hit minus 25F. I've used those handwarmer/footwarmer packets. Some older mechanical cameras need to be "cold hardened" with special lubricants, (although just cleaning & applying modern lubricants helps a lot) it's simpler and kinder to the camera to keep it warm, also...

A question for Nikon F2 owners

It needs servicing. The very slow speeds work because they are different mechanisms,

Best affordable 50mm LTM lens Summitar vs Nikkor f2?

"Pixel peeping" Yes. My preference for sharpness across the frame is the double Gauss type, however the Sonnar type has a lot of appeal. The j-8 and j9 are really nice, also a 30s uncoated Zeiss Sonnar. The Summitar has some of the same smooth contrast as the Sonnars. And since the OP has an...

    Scratched lens: Usable/salvageable?

Something that ugly and uneccesary, I wouldn't be associated with.

    Ghallager salvageable.

Made a rookie mistake today darn

How old are you? I've been using cameras for just about 50 years, there are still moments... :)

Best affordable 50mm LTM lens Summitar vs Nikkor f2?

One thing about the Summitar - it's no lightweight, weighing about 210gm. I love mine, but I got lucky. Mine has perfect glass, but came with the front cemented pair about 40% separated. Fortunately I could repair that, so I got very lucky to find the lens, the dedicated lens cap, the SOOPD...

    Is Sover Wong worth it?

Caretakers, yes, however only for certain items which are inherently durable enough to respond well to care and maintenance - lots of stuff isn't. An F2 is designed with regular maintenance in mind, so is a Leica. So are lots of other things, watches, clocks, automobiles, etc.. Sover Wong does...

What are good 35mm/28mm viewfinders for soviet rangefinder cameras?

The Soviet finder for that lens (forget the designation, it's an ugly plasticky thing) is actually pretty good. A good J12 is pretty nice. Just watch for sun in or just outside the frame, those things can flare impressively. Keep that in mind and they're very nice.

Who in the heck uses a motor winder/drive on a film camera these days?

Which reminds me, I keep forgetting to order an ink sac for a mid-20s lever-fill Sheaffer "Lifetime". Anyone needs one, it's Pen Sac Co dot com. They're cheap, $2-3 each. Shipping $4 iirc.

Nikon F2 vs FM handling in use

And the 105/2.5 Sonnar is pretty damn nice too. My 35/2 Nikkor-O came free, a friend sent it to Nikon for repair, Nikon had stopped servicing pre-AI lenses by then, maybe '92 or '3. The aperture was jammed by a floating screw, took me maybe 25 minutes to repair. The lens shows ~20 years of pro...

Nikon F2 vs FM handling in use

Excellent choice, as long as it's a good one to start with, you'll have it for a very long time. The Nikkor H/ HC is absolutely first-rate, I have one for each of 5 bodies - a couple came free and the most expensive one, an HC, was thirty-something with shipping. Also, I used my '68 F...

Who in the heck uses a motor winder/drive on a film camera these days?

If we were sane, we'd be using digital. Q.E.D. ^ Sanity is overrated and far too authoritarian.
