ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology ILFORD XP2 Super

My first two rolls on 6x7 were shot with XP2 Super in an RZ67. That is what got me hooked onto MF photography. Since then I have shot little XP2, but I have kept a few rolls handy for those occasions where other films can't beat it. Those who say it is soft: Maybe. On MF I have not encountered...

ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology ILFORD XP2 Super

I think the concerns were more about 100-200 years stability. The dyes that are now used are pretty stable, if you process and store your negatives correctly. For starters, that means a cool, dry and dark place. Your XP2 Super negatives should last long enough for you to print them many more...

Is it possible to reverse a C-41 negative

AFAIK you will still end up with an orange base, which sort of ruins the effect, unless you are purely into scanning and want to see what weird result you get after a standard colour neg scan. But by all means go for it.

Which Nikon lenses should I get first?

The Series E 75-150/3.5 is a wonderful lens, especially for portraits. Don't underestimate it. It also sits very nicely on an FM2n. And it is cheap. While I don't argue against any of your suggestions, there are times when a good small zoom is very valuable. And it makes a good starting point...
  5. Defensiveness about film photography

Being happy with your F is not helping Nikon to show 10% growth per year, is it? :D Ironically, the fact that Nikon is still in business and doing reasonably okay means I can use a raft of new lenses such as the 60/105 micros and 24-120/4 and 80-400 AF-S on my F5 and F100 film bodies. Life may...
  6. Defensiveness about film photography

Hi Roger, I actually agree with you. But to take that back to the original topic, the point beind the point is that many photographers who have been using MF and LF for some time, and even newcomers to MF and LF, feel uncertain and jittery about future availability of film, and that is partly...
  7. Defensiveness about film photography

You miss the point, because you read it out of context of the original post and the subsequent discussion. The point is that digital sensors offer no replacement or substitute for what can currently be done with LF and MF systems. Therefore, users of such systems are justified in their concern...

    Darkroom ventilation how-to

That would mean your darkroom accumulates air, and will eventually explode! :p Designing a ventilation system is not complicated. Air will flow from high pressure to low pressure, so the first thing is to decide how you want the air to flow. The best is to have it take chemical vapours away...
  9. Defensiveness about film photography

The D800 is now officially old :p. The D810 has been announced, knocking probably 20% off the D800's value straight away. But I agree, if film goes away, we'll still be able to do photography, just not in all the ways we liked and were used to. The world would become a poorer place, in the same...
  10. Defensiveness about film photography

IDK what prices were in 2000, but by 2011 MF equipment had bottomed out. If anything, prices have since risen a bit, since the original predictions re the total demise of film have been proven overly pessimistic. But that wasn't my original point, which was actually that until today, affordable...
  11. How do you find your groove?

Was it a mag dedicated to analogue? It seems most if not all black and white magazines have embraced digital as well as film. That could partly explain it. I don't think Apuggers are more than a tiny fraction of black and white photographers. We do not even represent a significant fraction of...
  12. Introduction and a few questions

He already has a 50 AF-S G, and an AF-S equivalent 70-300 Tamron. So an FM2n is not a good choice. One would of course assume the F5 and F6 are not in consideration price/size wise, but both would work for the purposes. I still stick to recommending either the F75, F80 or F100. One of them...
  13. Defensiveness about film photography

Inaccessible in terms of cost of large sensors, and inaccessible in terms of getting the same format size for which the equipment (especially the lens) was designed. Apart from prohibitively expensive scanning backs, I am not aware of any fixed sensor that covers the full 6x7, 4x5, 8x10 etc...
  14. Defensiveness about film photography

One of the main gripes we have with digital is that it has made larger formats inaccessible, and rendered the medium and large format equipment mostly obsolete. That in itself is kind of sad, and it would be a painful day when large format sheet film is not available any longer.
