  1. Please, don't delete all data from finished listings

Just a small observation - the price in a closed listing is not necessarily the selling price. Any time I ever sold anything, I always got a "would you take $XXX dollars less" message. Sometimes i accepted. Charley

    My new Hasselblad lens case

Wandered through the supermarket until I found a suitably-sized can. Found one that's just about perfect - lens fits nice and snug after installing some felt lining. Required a little surgery, as the lip of the can was too narrow for the lens, but that was easily solved with a hacksaw. Here's...

Thanks for all the good suggestions and discussion. I'll take the digital down to the high school track, where I can have multiple subjects. Charley

    Photographing runners

I agree it's a challenge, but that's what makes it fun. I'm only risking time and film. Alas, I won't be in London for the race. I'll be in New Hampshire next week and will experiment. Thus the request for guidance. For those who may not know, there are seven "major" world marathons. She's...

Digital is a good suggestion. Let's me try out different speeds and focal lengths. Thanks. Charley

    Photographing runners

Thanks for the suggestions. Background blurring is the easy part. I had meant, but neglected to say, that I was looking to perhaps blur hands and feet. Yes, 1/30th was where I was going to start. I'm musing about different focal lengths as whether I can get foot blurring with no background...

    Photographing runners

I'd like to take a picture of my daughter running. What I envision is panning on her as she passes, and using a slower shutter speed to produce some blurring, hopefully thus suggesting movement. I'd appreciate any suggestions on shutter settings, rather than waste film experimenting from...

Can a Petzval barrel lens have a slot for Waterhouse apertures cut into it?

Ian's suggestion is the wisest. Perhaps the lens could be fitted to a shutter. Grimes could certainly so this. If you cut a slot in the barrel, you run into the problems of spacing, centering and squaring. Charley

Do any of you have a "birth year camera"?

OK, I'll confess - I've got a Leica IIIc S/N 423xxx, which I believe equals to my birth year, 1946. I've also got a Nicca marked, "Made in Occupied Japan", which is close enough for me. Charley

    Lost Camera - I'm sick

St Anthony has been known to hold out for a long time. I don't know how long I (or my wife, waiting for the cat) can wait for a freebee. On the other hand, when one wants to sell one's house, the local wisdom is to bury a statue of St Joseph, up-side down, in the yard, only digging him up (and...
