Window Frost, #1

I am finally getting around to printing this series of pictures. Having moved once in 2009 and once in 2010 I have pictures of window frost from three different residences. There are a lot of negatives to go through, so this is a start. Even now, two years after I started taking pictures of window frost, it amazes me the shapes nature will deliver water in.

Printed the other night in my 45 degree F darkroom. Using a hot water jacket in a tray bigger than the ones I keep the chemistry in, I manage to balance the liquid temp at about 65-72 degrees without too much effort. The only problem is I'm freezing my a$$ off in there while doing it. But I'm still having fun, and just maybe the struggle is good for me.

Thanks for having a look,

- Thomas

Thanks for the advice, Morry! But I would have to dig out the basement in order to do it...
What I'm doing instead is building a room within the basement, and I'll insulate that as best as I can.

The frosty ferns image is excellent.
The two exterior walls in my darkroom are insulated with 2" of styrofoam insulation. There's no heat vent and the temp stays around 68 all year round.

just gorgeous thomas!
i think my darkroom is about that cold. i use warming trays set on high for my developer and it works beautifully. as for myself, i used to wear a stunning pink fuzzy robe with long johns etc but the last time i worked, i remembered a pair of army surplus 'snowpants' i used to ski in. they are lined with a quilted pair of pants, then the outer pair...suspenders and everything. wearing these with wool socks and long johns, i am able to wear just a sweater on top with a scarf and it is PERFECT!! the fuzzy robe was difficult cuz of the long sleeves that i was constantly pulling up.
ohhh the things we do for the love of a great print!
