Window Frost, #1

I am finally getting around to printing this series of pictures. Having moved once in 2009 and once in 2010 I have pictures of window frost from three different residences. There are a lot of negatives to go through, so this is a start. Even now, two years after I started taking pictures of window frost, it amazes me the shapes nature will deliver water in.

Printed the other night in my 45 degree F darkroom. Using a hot water jacket in a tray bigger than the ones I keep the chemistry in, I manage to balance the liquid temp at about 65-72 degrees without too much effort. The only problem is I'm freezing my a$$ off in there while doing it. But I'm still having fun, and just maybe the struggle is good for me.

Thanks for having a look,

- Thomas

Hard to believe this is frost! Looks like delicate fern fronds. ( I commend you sir, for working in your darkroom during the winter! Mine is off limits till spring!)

the crystallizations are so "organic" ... great harvest Thomas .... wow 45 F darkroom ! Doesn't sound too comfortable. Maybe we'll need to get you a space heater or something my friend  ....

Wow, thanks for your comments! I was having a ton of fun with this. I figured it probably takes something like 10 degrees F for these to form, so I can't be whimpy at 45...
G - I do remember the hot air suit... Cracked me up!
Miles, I have a space heater, actually, but the walls are concrete with no insulation so it would do no good, unfortunately. I would have to heat the whole basement. Eventually I'll frame in the darkroom area, and insulate at least the two walls I put up. That way I might be able to get about 55-60 degrees in it. And that would be easier to deal with. But I constantly think of how lucky I am, that I actually have a darkroom area that works, and I can make prints, which makes me so happy!

The frosty ferns image is excellent.
The two exterior walls in my darkroom are insulated with 2" of styrofoam insulation. There's no heat vent and the temp stays around 68 all year round.
