I love capturing shots like these where the world seems to stop for some but continue as "normal" for everyone else in the street. I really like this one as the street corner adds more interest for me, Good capture.
Good thing the Gallery doesn't have a "post no Bill's" rule, this being the second image of yours I recall from that venue, John.
I like the overall mood of the scene, where the individuals are largely oblivious to each other, going along in their respective little worlds inside the "public" bubble.
Question: you seem to like photographing these scenes from a distance. Is that an intentional style you're going for with this (apparent) series? I ask because the usual "street photography" admonition would be to get closer and more involved, so the compositions have more of a dynamic, "in your face" feel. Whether that approach is "right" is another matter, of course.
Ralph I find a mixtures of the usual "in your face" and the style here adds to the variety of street shooting. This approach I find usually more interesting as it seems to tell a social story in addition to capturing the main subject of the shoot. I guess I spent to much time when younger (and still do) looking at old copies of Picture Post Magazine.
John I'd be interested in knowing if this is your style or if your still developing it also, because it's a look I love.
Hmm, To tell you the truth, TP, I hadn't really given much thought to the sort of style I seem to be developing, but I feel that I like to get a wider viewpoint in the shot, especially when the area covered is so photographically appealing........Regards, John.
Tony - I agree with your variety comment. I, too, like what John is doing with these. I would, however, like a close-up of the lady with the flower. Looks interesting.
Ralph I agree with you also John have you considered a selective crop on the "lady with the flowers" as Ralph suggests? Maybe have her framed left with the flowers running to the right? Just a possible second version for this one and it's amazing how a good capture like this can produce several versions
OK I'll bite as I'm in the mood, REGARDLESS of what make of camera or what format this was shot in you could get at least 3 versions from this negative. For me I think this version will be the best of the crop.
