Several weeks ago the Virginia Museum of Transportation held an event where they pulled 2 steam engines, the 1218 and 611, outside for a a night photo shoot.
Having to work around 30 digital shooters made for a challenge for me and my Linhof, but I am pleased with this portrait of the 1218.
Thanks everyone for the compliments. Tony: I am sure that some of the digi people got good pictures, especially when the actors in period costumes were posing for them. But what amused me was the old guy who was drooling over my Linhof and talking about when he shot 4x5 back in the day, then went on to say that he had probably taken a thousand pictures with his digital rig that night. Being the polite guy that I am I kept my thought "you need a thousand exposures to get one good one?" to myself. The Gatling Theory in practice, I suppose.
Dan, "Having to work around 30 digital shooters made for a challenge for me and my Linhof, but I am pleased with this portrait of the 1218." I am curious on what the general reaction of the digital shooters was, with you and your 4 x 5 equipment. Great shot Dan. Steven
A great shot and a beautiful locomotive. I remember when it came to Kansas City on a trip. I just wish they would put new flues in it and use it for excursion service again.
