Minnesota Zephyr

When I view these kind of things I get sad. I look at all that American steel and iron and all the jobs it provided to manufacture it and how we all benefited from it...now it's gone for the most part. Even the little cotter pin you see in the top right is more than likley made overseas somewhere. I don't want to sound like a nationalist but I've seen the layoff and hard times side of the coin all to often. I wanted this to be a homage to all the men and women before us that worked so hard to make this country nice for us.

Mike, I am not one to leave many comments. Either I like an image or I don't like it. It is as simple as that. Your image, in my opinion, is almost perfect. The only improvement I would make is to give the highlight on the cylinder a little detail. It may have detail in the actual print so take this comment as you wish.
Second point is your statement. The people of today, no matter where they live, must pay respect and be thankful to those that have gone before us. We owe it to them to continue the fight, no matter what it is. I have often wondered what the elitist people in this country are going to do when all the jobs have been moved out of our country and the population is full of working poor. No one to purchase goods and services from their business. Maybe they will be poor also.

WOW, great job! I also like big, old, iron machines like this one. And I like it very much if people, like you, can make almost abstract images of it. Perfect contrast too (which is necessary for this things imo).

Mike, nice shot of a vanishing breed.

We have a wrecking yard I see out of our office window when I'm making copies. It is full of railroad cars being scrapped which are all headed for China now. It is ironic that we are selling out our infrastructure, which cost so much to create, for pennies on the dollar, to a country which does not need the ability to create its own. This is the way of the world, sort of like Ilford flailing about in its death throes. Such is life.

Trains - I love 'em. Your image - I love it. You exhibit a great attitude and imagination. Please, let's have more? I cannot understand all the out-sourcing that's been going on for years. Is the bottom line really that important - in the long haul?

Not only do I like the picture, but also, the way you described your thinking behind it. Its a good lesson about having an idea in mind when taking a picture instead of mindlessly shooting away. Thanks. P.S. Love the way the silver looks matte and the varying darkness of the shadows.

Off the subject, but is this the diesel engine that pulls the dining cars along the St. Croix River at Stillwater? We had only a few hours to spend in Stillwater, but it is a beautiful place. I love the movable bridge there also.

Yup, it is! I was just going to be driving thru and I've ended up being there three times in as many weeks and I live 300 miles from there. Something about that place keeps me coming back.
