Magnified

I went to a portfolio review event on Friday at the Griffin Museum near Boston, and all the folks who reviewed my portfolio loved this picture. I realized, I've never posted it here.

Honestly, I was never sure about it. It was made with the Mamiya 7, when that camera was very new to me at the time, and I was fumbling around with it, and there were things about the picture I was never sure about.

It's not a great negative, and the scan is a little "hotter" than the print, but it's got some blown out areas.

Go figure...

I don't think you need more praise, Suzanne - but I can't contain it. Somehow, unexplainably - a wonderful portrait - although strictly not a portrait. A brilliant "rendering" (? not sure if that is the right word) of a childs - childrens - curiosty and anticipation of discovery. BRAVA!!

I also like the way his fingers are like the toes on the dinosaur on the t-shirt, the light on his hair, and the way he's holding the magnifying glass so straight. It's funny but also you get the seriousness of child's play at the same time. One of my favorites of this series.
