Kinkakuji in the Snow 1

Kyoto had its biggest snowfall in 60 years over the first three days of the new year. Went early to Kinkakuji (also known as the Golden Pavilion) but 300 people made it there before me. By the time the gates opened, that number had increased by at least 1000 people. I managed to push my way to the front of the viewing area to get some photos in. I had intended to shoot both BW and colour, but the crowds were so bad (I had a little old lady crawl up and over my camera bag on my back) that I just managed with the BW. By the time I left an hour later, most of the snow had melted off of practically everything.

This was my contribution to Postcard Exchange #34.

I can't imagine the scene! I was there on a regular day and it was a challenge. I'm tired now just thinking about it. LOL.

Yeah, it definitely was a challenge! Interestingly, the best shots of that day were not from the main viewing area, but from the back and sides.
