On my trip to the Outer Banks this summer I wondered the coastline along where the Cape Hatteras lighthouse used to sit. Dunes, sea grasses, beach fences and breakers jetting out into the ocean.. some cement and wood, some iron, but all meant to slow down erosion around the lighthouse. Ultimately mother nature won as she always does and in 1999 man was forced to move the majestic lighthouse.
It was a dreary day, great for photography. Fat rain drops just started to fall as I took this photograph of a worn beach fence in front of grasses on a dune near the former location. I printed this for my brother as a Christmas present this year.
