@scheimfluger_77 Thanks I thought that might be the most glaringly obvious thing missing but wanted to get opinions from learned experts. TBH I was so caught off-guard by my wife agreeing to a photo that I wanted to get it done before she changed her mind.
It was the lighting that attracted me to this lovely family shot. You've done the hard bit in getting an in-focus shot of 2 people on an LF camera, so I guess a little lift of the shadows in software might yield a more wall-friendly result for the family?
It's a lovely, tender portrait. The hand communicates care and protection. As you know, the boy's face is too dark. There's probably enough shadow detail to dodge his face. There's a catchlight in your wife's shadowed eye so that side doesn't necessarily need dodging, but it wouldn't hurt. This one's a keeper and probably a family heirloom.
