Desert Light Show

Even a blind man finds the door once in a while. I had just parked on top of a knoll and got out to look for prospects when I saw what the storm was doing about 8 miles away. It had touched down and was hammering the desert! One of those moments when you think about every move because getting an 11X14 camera set up from scratch in time to capture this event had me breathless! I used the 674mm component of the Cooke Series XV convertible to get me a little closer. In 3 minutes the show was over.

Fabulous shot! It must have taken great composure to get everything set up and to make the exposure under such circumstances. No small feat with an 11x14 camera!

All the best,
Daniel

Hi Jim, as to Efke 25....I inherited 2 boxes from generous sellers. I'm not sure I would have chosen it otherwise. Let's face it, grain isn't the issue with an 11X14 so why 25 asa. This shot would have been 1/8th second with 400 asa film instead of an unweildly 3 secs. If it's breezy at all, that's a consideration. I do like the contrasty film though as I'm trying to double up both silver printing and Pt / Pd (someday when I get my act together).

Jim, thanks for the info! Yes ULF and slow speeds are the norm. I do like the look of the Efke 25 and its contrast. Having a dual purpose neg is a good thing. I guess it's just the way I think when I shoot. If I 'm ever in shutter speed territory it is amazing!! Hence, the collection of barrel lenses grows. Have any 8x10 Efke 25 I can inherit???!!!! Just kidding. Love the tones in this print.

Jim
