Magnified

I went to a portfolio review event on Friday at the Griffin Museum near Boston, and all the folks who reviewed my portfolio loved this picture. I realized, I've never posted it here.

Honestly, I was never sure about it. It was made with the Mamiya 7, when that camera was very new to me at the time, and I was fumbling around with it, and there were things about the picture I was never sure about.

It's not a great negative, and the scan is a little "hotter" than the print, but it's got some blown out areas.

Go figure...

I think it is a great shot...and you can peer into the character of the child, who looks like a real ham!

It's great. I have seen it before - on your website? I like the way it's his nose and mouth magnified (when you'd normally expect the eye?) - makes it more secretive. And funny. The blown highlights don't bother me - then I'm rarely bothered by them anyway - there's a great sense of summer conveyed, and the strength of light helps that.

Smart indeed and to me,a little funny.I'm wondering though, how things could be if young boy's eye was in the magnifying lens.

Yes, that's SUPER Suzanne. You always capture the essence of childhood wonder in your work.
