Great shot, but like so many great shots...a sad commentary. One of your best IMO. Like the way you handled the dof with this one, along with the balance of the subject.

take a look a Keith Carters work on dogs....just as good.

Thank you very much as well. I agree with the DOF... When I started to print this, I though: \"Crap, it\'s out of focus.\" But having the focus a little in front of the dog really makes the image, I think.

Now, that really is unfair to Keith Carter, don\'t you think? That man has a way with the mundane that is beyond me. I have seen some of his work on the Photographs Do Not Bend gallery here in dallas, and I must say that it\'s fantastic. Thank you for the kind comparisson.

Thank you as well. Unfortunately, I did not feed her. To be honest with you, this is as close as I got to her, as she was afraid of me. In any case, I had nothing but a few dozen rolls of film and a couple of bottles of water on me.
In poor towns, dogs only eat the left overs, and only when there is anything left over...

this is a great image. I think composition is perfect and you caught the perfect moment. you are growing along the way, let continue, only sky is the limit.... a very impresive shoot, this one.

beautifully sad and thought provoking - funny how a picture of a skinny dog seems to have more effect on me than one of a starving human ... ?

No offence taken Andre, I hear what you are saying loud and clear and I rant with you in unison ... but I dont think that explains why for me anyway. I think it is more to do with being a member of the "live-aid" generation. Since our pre-adolescent years, we have been bombarded with picture after picture of starving people and severe world poverty to the point of saturation. The immediate and constant access to such images has lead us to a point that it just doesnt affect us as it should any longer. whereas to see a dog in this state in England (on the news or in real life) today is very very rare - i have been allowed to keep my sensitivity to such things so it affects me as it should.

or then again, maybe I'm just avoiding the point ... a typically north-western trait.

Great photograph... Shows a wonderful sensitivity, on your part, to the world in which you live.
