A coal wagon

This was a coal wagon used in the transport of coal from the Frances Colliery in Dysart, Kirkcaldy. The pit closed in 1985, after an underground fire, after more than 100 years in existence. I took this photograph 10 years ago when Fuji Pro 400H was more affordable.

Both McGahey and Daly were legends in the trade Union movement in the industrial heartlands of Scotland. I actually met Lawrence Daly on a picket line once in 1974 during the miner's strike. That seems a lifetime ago.
