Two weeks in. 2nd picture out.

Two weeks in. 2nd picture out.

Slight misnomer in the title. I've been battling away for two weeks in my new darkroom. The first picture I worked on is still being worked on. I've also printed a few family pics out, just so that the wife can see that something productive is happening.

Well back to this shot. This is the second major print I've attempted. I had to rotate the easel to get the viaduct straight, split grade, burnt in bridge and bottom edge. Still not sure about the composition and tone. Any advice and suggestions requested.

This is a print to be proud of. It has a lovely ruggedness about it. And I certainly agree, a great composition. I'm sure the scan does it no justice.

Well done mate.

Thanks for the kind replies. It's comments like these that make the 1 1/2 empty boxes of paper worthwhile.

I agree with all the others. Very well done!!!

I'd be proud to have this one hanging on the wall.

In my opinion there are two points of focus. The aquaduct in the background and the milky river fall in foreground. When first looking at the picture it is kind of confusing which to focus on. However, the image is great, tones are fantastic, foreground composition is well done and clear. Great job overall.

Yoy have managed to get two pictures on one sheet. Mask off in turn the top half for a nice water fall picture, and then the bottom half for a shot of the river and viaduct. In fact I see I'm repeating what Sammy has said, and I agree with his conclusion too.

Lee-there is quite a bit going on here. Make yourself a cutout card with black borders and you will begin to answer your own questions. Since your camera has a fixed focal length you might have to get in closer.
Best,Peter

That was one of the options I was looking at. I tried a crop on my monitor after I scanned the print. The waterfall I can get away with, I'm just trying to find the right crop for the bridge. That rock that sticks up vertically intrudes a bit into a bridge crop but I'll try a print tonight. I'm going to take a walk down there this weekend as it's only five minutes away and try to shoot the waterfall and bridge separately. It's quite hard to get the bridge on it's own as there is another sheer face on the right of the river. Still, I'll get my wellies on and give it a go although with the amount of rain we've had in the past couple of days it might be a bit deep.

Would you include any of the river in the waterfall shot or crop right at the top of the fall?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Wow, this is quite a nice image. I have read the others comments and somewhat agree with them. Perhaps a revisit with the idea in mind of making two seperate images. My own thoughts are that this scene as it is has great potential. How about ealier or later in the day? I believe you can capture this image from the same tripod holes, by patience and waiting for more dramitic light. Perhaps a harder light would carve in more contrast on the bridge and immediate foreground driving or stearing your eye up the stream bed and come to rest on the bridge as the main focal point.

Regardless, I like this image very much and the challenge and potential it provides you!

Thanks for posting!
