Solemn Sadness in the Heart of a Free Spirit

In keeping with trying to really master Tmax400 which everyone raves about but I've yet to get perfect, I shot this while shooting my Abandoned Books project (on digital so I can't show you the spectacular image I took of the scene... eeek!).

It was shot at 200 and pushed like 2 stops to 16 minutes in Rodinal and I still feel like I should have to bring it up another quarter stop in post (I didn't in this version, but I think in the scan I had to adjust it from the center range to get the right look in scan). so really, I can't figure out why it's rated at 400, it's like a 100 speed film based on those numbers...

You should try PyroCat-HD rather than Rodinal. I use it for TMAX100 and it's spectacular.
I keep meaning to try it but I don't like the 2 chemical mix thing.

Suck it up princess lol.
At first I thought you were commenting on the photo, and I got a little upset, I am super protective of my models and especially this one who is a dear friend and then I realized you meant me! Haha! :smile:I'll try it eventually, I still have a bunch of HC-110 left, then I want to kill this bag of D-76 that I bought on a whim, then I'll run through my bottle of ilfsol (which I like a lot but is too expensive per roll as a one shot, but can be re-used on about 6 rolls (which they don't admit but I've done it easily) without any issues). Then I have this old can of polydol which I think is goin to be fun. THEN it's pyrocat HD. I've certainly found I love and will probably not give up Rodinal/HC-110/DD-X(also expensive per roll as one shot but totally worth it, love the results). So we shall see about the pyro

well - I like your photo almost as much as I hate Tmax 400..... (Tmax 100 is ok, but I have never seen a good example of Tmax 400 (in real life that is..))I stick to Tri-X...

Wow, high praise from you sir, thank you, I'm honored  I like best the fine grained nature of it, but it just exposes all wrong compared to all the other films I use, I'll get it eventually, probably just about the time Kodak stops making film. I just want it to expose at 400, that's sort of the whole point of using it for me, otherwise I'll just use FP4+ or Acros100 and agree'd Tmax100 is OK...

Sorry, but the comments regarding TMax 400 are absolutely ridiculous, and without any reasonable basis. If the prints you've seen from this film are crap, the photographers/printers who used the film were crap, plain and simple. And Pyrocat, supercat whatever cat won't help you.
Haven't we had this discussion before? As my comments state, I'm still working towards understanding it. I had to dev in rodinal for 16 minutes when it calls for 11 so something is wrong, and I also disagree that trying a different developer is NOT a solution, of course it is, we all like different dev's and styles of exposure, so it could possibly be true that pyrocat HD is what I need in order to get the look I want and still be able to expose it at 400. I've already adjusted my developing techniques as you suggested in that other thread, and it helped. But I still had to adjust the pre-scan numbers slightly because the skin tone was much darker bordering on the exposure of a light skinned Cambodian girl. Yet all the other films and digital images were exposed properly. So something is wrong with the film or rather DIFFERENT about it that it possibly isn't rated correctly? But I do like it fine grained nature, so I'll continue to work with it and attempt to get the results I want, switching from HC-110 to Rodinal helped tremendously, so perhaps pyrocat HD will help even more.
