I recently spent a morning in Gary, Indiana with fellow photographers from the Midwest Large Format Asylum. The entire downtown area was in terribly sad condition, and this once beautiful church was in a similar state.
Excellent print Daniel, love all the different tones and details. Sad to see a place like this in the condition it is in, but very happy you stopped to photograph it and even more happy you shared it.
(Is everyone going to those charismatic mega-churches now and abandoning these old bastions of religiousness? Or is this just a result of an abandoned urban center or town?)
Superb picture. Glad that someone has shot it for posterity. We've lost innumerable churches in the U.K. but one as imposing as this I would hope that what we call "listed building status" would apply. In effect a preservation order.
I would like to think that after the "city hall" vandalism of the 1960/70s in the U.K. we are beginning to value our inner city heritage.
Pity the city fathers in Gary don't feel the same.
