It's a saying in martial arts meaning one should be aware of the totality of the opponent's movement, like moonlight shining on all that surrounds you. Thoughts are like clouds that block the moonlight. It is closely related to mizu no kokoro, or mind like still water. These photos strike me as having captured those ideas.
