The black dirt region of Orange County NY is a unique and very beautiful environment. I fear its eventual development for upscale housing as real estate value puts increasing pressure on the local farmers. It would be a tragedy. So...my intention is to gradually produce a body of work that may be its only legacy.
I think that this is one of the better landscape photographs that anyone has posted on this forum in the time that I have been here.
What I like about this photograph of yours is that there is a point of tension in your composition between the leading lines of the canal and the crop rows and the horizontal hillside, treeline, and clouds. This image was extremely well seen and you are to be commended for your vision in representing this image.
The one thing that I might do, if I were printing this, would be to dodge the distant hillside to bring that value up slightly to give the impression of sunlight on that surface. This possiblity is supported by the broken clouds that are evident in this image.
I would be interested in trading you for this photograph. If you find anything of mine that interests you at any time, please keep this in mind. Once again, good work.
I don't usually like landscapes all that much, but this is really moving. There is a connection that I have to farming, and I'm sure that that has something to do with it, but the sense of place in this is very strong. There is wonderful depth and the perfect treatment of the sky to augment, rather than compete with, the rest of the subject. I'd very much like to see your work on farms - they deserve far more recognition than they get these days.
