Big cypress marsh #1

Big cypress marsh #1

I had been driving by this area in the Big Cypress Preserve all summer thinking it would be a good spot to photograph. Most of the places I work in are a long ways from the road and usually involve hiking with 60 pounds of gear on my back through knee deep water, so I figured this would be a piece of cake. I parked my van on the side of the road as the sun was starting to set. I mounted my 8x10 camera on its tripod and proceeded to walk in. To my surprise I immediately sunk up to my waist in the wet grass. I realized quickly this was going to be much harder than I thought. As I trudged along I quickly became aware that I wasn’t alone, little heads started popping up one by one checking me out. With all these young gators around their mom and dad probably weren’t far away, that gave me something to think about as climbed under my dark cloth to compose this image.

Wonderful impact! Those bright clouds in the center really make a difference. Great!
