Big cypress marsh #1

Big cypress marsh #1

I had been driving by this area in the Big Cypress Preserve all summer thinking it would be a good spot to photograph. Most of the places I work in are a long ways from the road and usually involve hiking with 60 pounds of gear on my back through knee deep water, so I figured this would be a piece of cake. I parked my van on the side of the road as the sun was starting to set. I mounted my 8x10 camera on its tripod and proceeded to walk in. To my surprise I immediately sunk up to my waist in the wet grass. I realized quickly this was going to be much harder than I thought. As I trudged along I quickly became aware that I wasn’t alone, little heads started popping up one by one checking me out. With all these young gators around their mom and dad probably weren’t far away, that gave me something to think about as climbed under my dark cloth to compose this image.

Another Great One, John. I really really have come to love you wide angle work.

Thanks for sharing.

John you dog!!!!!
you went out and bought a Ebony 8x10. I get a ebony 8x10 then Jim gets one now you get one. I'm such a trend setter. You got to love that camera. Your color work is outstanding. I sold my 120mm nikkor, just could get it to work for me so i have a 165mm Schneider I use.
Let see we have had around 30 inches of rain this summer and you go tracking across this area thinking it is ankle deep? brave boy.....!!!!!

rarely do I enjoy color work (not that that means much) but this is gorgeous.
I had forgotten how please the colors in Astia are.
really well done.

Lovely colours, but I'm not sure I'd risk a leg for it! That profile shot on your website had me thinking the same thing a while back.... I'd be too on edge to take a single frame!

A lovely shot, beautiful rendition of evening colours.

Cheers

Wow! You are all to kind. Yes Mike you must have inspired me with the Ebony 8x10. Mine is quite different then yours though. It is a non folding 7 pounder that will focus a 90xl on a flat board. I love this camera.

Solarize, I think leaving the house some days can be risky, as a matter of fact just waking up with the stock market the way it is has been risky. I think of my work as full contact photography.
ciao
