Archer_Carriage X850

Carriage house door from the Archer Mansion. I was fascinated by the construction of the door, especially the striations in the door from the milling saw blade. Building circa 1802-1804 but i discovered recently that the door was replaced and made by an Amish craftsman not so long ago.

Sawheet! I love the look, design of the door, the stone work - especially the arched header, the mortar joints (we have some similar in PDX). A brothel of texture. Thx for posting Michael.

Fascinating to me, a photograph taken in 1936 of the carriage/barn building is available digitized at the Library Of Congress

Clearly the wrought iron hardware used in the rebuilding of the door was also new, not original. I can say, the craftsmanship of the Amish is staggeringly good. When it comes to bars, no one knows more or has more know-how.
