I like it, but have a slightly different take, perhaps a bit allegorical. To me it is obviously a subway and maybe not in the nicest part of town. The doorway provides an opportunity, an escape, to an area that seems to be lighter and better. But then I need to consider that figure in the window. I can use the doorway but what awaits me on the other side? The ghostly figure now gives me pause. What seems even more strange is the more I look at the figure the more he or she seem to be just standing there, waiting for me, expecting me.

Simply, for me, the image does two things that are pretty rare and hard to achieve in any image, let alone together. First I can smell the space, feel the damp, dankness, even the stickyness of the concrete as I walk along. Second, the image provides the elements of mystery (shadow figure, sign, possible shadows on the other walls) that makes me want to go back to it again and again and try to dechiper it.

Nice picture. I love that in Chicago, it is the "El" even if it is underground. The stop for the train I rode for years looked like this one. What I find ironic in these underground stops is the posters for movies etc. that are placed on the walls opposite the platform. You can see the edge of one on the right I think. Highly stylized fashion shots of perfume viewed under Satan's lighting (as you point) out with the smell of the piss of bums in the air. Of course, they usually get tagged pretty quickly.

I love this imagery. To me it's a statement of the path the coporate type is taking. Bleak, dungeony, dreary, cold. "No smoking" as a rule in a place that holds far worse hazards is particularly striking and poignant. Seems silly to have such rule, but approprate metaphor of the corporate bureaucracy. The environment engulfs the person, forces them into the shadows. I like this image a lot.
