NW APUG Gathering in October 2010 in danger...

#1
Hello all,

I would still like to host a gathering of APUG'ers and whatever locals might wish to join us. Unfortunately we have lost Denise's demo due to my lack of communication and activity -- she had to make other plans for that time.

I apologize for my lack of communication. Between getting surprised with a divorce in February, establishing a new household in April, giving carbon workshops (April and May, and other one this September), hanging a large show down in the Bay Area (June), and now being out of town until August 1, I have had too many things on my mind and schedule to give this the attention it deserves.

We still have an offer of a wet plate demo, but I can't find the emails relating to that, so if the person who offered to give the demo could contact me, we can discuss if you are still willing to come down to give the demo.

As a replacement for Denise, I can offer a mini carbon printing workshop. basically those interested can bring one negative and have a chance to make a carbon print with it (8x10 or smaller...I have recently been making some carbon prints from 120 negs -- sweet little images!) No guarentee of a frameable print, but a chance to actually do the process instead of just watching me. Negatives should have too much contrast for silver printing. Of course, if we have 20 people wanting to make carbon prints, we may have have a lottery for those wanting to make a print -- I think I can handle 12 people.

But if someone else has some ideas for demos, we can consider them instead of the carbons.

The tenative schedule would be the wet plate demo Saturday morning, October 9th. Then the remainder of the day would be the carbon workshop (I am willing to continue after dinner if needed)...or other demo(s).

Sunday would be dedicated to a field trip to photograph -- up to Prairie Creek Redwood State Park (50 miles north of Arcata). Those not interested in the redwoods have several other photographic options -- such as old barns (including the interior of one of them), Victorian architecture, rugged coastline, etc.

If there is interest, an optional over-night camping experience at Prairie Creek on Sunday night might be possible. Have not figured out the logistics of this yet. Is there any interest in this?

I need to get a commitment from a number of people for the Gathering to see if this will be all worthwhile to go for. When I hear from the person offering to do the wet plate demo and know for sure that is happening, I will post this on the main forum to see what interest there is in our members in the Bay Area, Sacramento area, etc.
