Forgive my non-tech abilities but I just joined: how do I get an image into the "avatar" box

Welcome! How's the weather in Seattle?

Avatar -- click on "My APUG" in the top header. Then along the left side you will see a bunch of stuff. If it is not already expanded, click on "Settings and Options", then click on "Edit Avatar" -- the rest is pretty well explained there.

I never have been able to get it to work. Just stupid I guess. I load the picture and it is on my profile page but refuses to show up as an Avatar image. Beats the hell outa me

Thank you for the welcome Vaughn, I'll give it a try.

The weather here has been outstanding until today, unfortunately it would seem I have missed the best part of fall again, I keep trying to capture the vine maples "floating" with their yellow leaves in the deep woods, as I have come down with the flu.

On a lighter note, i have been looking to try and hang some of my images but haven't found anyone interested. I remember reading though that a guy in europe regularly gets together with some like minded folks and they go in together and rent the space for a weekend show. I live in the Renton area(south of Seattle)and I know the local arts counsel here would probably help facilitate such an endeavor here. If anyone is interested I'll contact them and see what it would cost.

Last thing, where is Jefferson?

Jefferson was a proposed state in the early 1940's, it would have be made up of counties of northern California and southern Oregon.

I was hanging out with the vine maples under the redwoods to the north today -- perfect weather...overcast and still air for those 2 to 4 minute exposures (on 8x10 Tmax400). Made good use of my yellow filter to pop out those yellow leaves. In the redwoods south of me, the poison oak climbs up the sides of the redwoods for some 30 feet or more. -- the red leaves showering down upon you when the wind blows through the trees!

Very dry under the Redwoods, but rain is on the way. Many of the vine maples still need another week and the Bigleaf Maples are underway but not peaking yet. The berries, cascara buckthorn and alders are still green. I'll have to take a day off next week and go out there again. Even early November can still have some yellow sprinkled though out the redwoods. It is one of my most favorite times under the redwoods...a nice way to wait until all the alder and berry leaves fall off and the forest floor opens up some. Mid winter in the redwoods is also nice for the salmon/steelhead coming up the creek from the ocean. If I can, I usually spend the first day of the year checking out the fish.

Seattle is a bit north for me.

Good morning, Ron;

Welcome to APUG, and to the USPNWRG. It is nice to have another APUG guy here in Latte Land. There are a few of us here who also visit Glazer's, Kenmore Camera, and others.

For me, this is also the season when I try to make sure there is a camera in the car with me when I turn onto a road and the view before me suggests that I find a parking space and record what the trees are doing there at that time. So many of these things are so fleeting and transitory. I have gone on to my planned activity for that day intending to return tomorrow with a camera, and found that the colors had changed in just that one day. It was not the same.

Again, Ron, welcome to the group.

Enjoy;
