I just noticed that we can put a group Icon under the Pacific Northwest.
What should we put there? Something that says Northwest.
Any suggestions?

Peak picture - Rainier? Hood? St Helens?
How about an old growth forest image? Not just redwoods, but true old growth like around Ohanpacosh? Hoh rain forest?
An image of the Palouse rolling hills?
A slug? An eagle? A sea lion munching on salmon at Bonneville dam?
Too many good images, too few bits. The problem is that the Northwest is huge - and has many diverse images. None of them can be totally representative of the entire region....

I like the rain forest or old growth ideas. That way its very generic.
Do you have anything?

Since we can't add images to our posts here (as far as I can tell), I posted one to the group forum -- "Two Redwoods" as a possible icon. But perhaps an ocean view might work as well. And something that is already in a square format might work better, also.

Vaughn's picture works for me. Maybe we will find it doesn't need to be cropped. That would be better.

Good morning;

Vaughn's Redwoods is certainly a contender. Don12x20 may also have a point; the mountains would be even more recognizable as something from here.

Robert, you are from Oregon. If you feel that Don's suggestion of Mount Hood feels comfortable, go for it. Mount St. Helens may change again, and Mount Ranier is clearly in Washington. Mount Hood is sort of in the middle. And it has such a nice conical profile.

OK, I know that this has not really helped. You are still our founder and illustrious leader. Your choice, sir.

Hi All,
This is a perfect case in point of why I could never be the judge of a photo contest. All the options for our icon are beautiful! How could anyone choose?

As you stated Ralph, Mt. Hood is Oregon, Mt St Helens is on the border of Oregon and Washington but it's not impressive without its top. Maybe we could use the image of St. Helens going off? A set of trees can be anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. I don't wish to pick an image without input from you all. We're all into this together!

Good morning, Robert;

Seriously, Robert, I admit to you that I did hesitate to make such a proposal. Admittedly, I have pointed out that I live in Latte Land. Starbucks has begun to approach the level of recognition enjoyed by Coca Cola and McDonalds, but I wonder about the "commercial" implications.

Again, under the heading of Pacific Northwest Icons, we do still have Mount Rainier, but with the National Bank of Commerce relabeling itself the Rainier National Bank, I have wondered if the US Parks people were going to be asked to change the name of that tri-topped peak to "Mount Commerce."

If only we had a mountain with the international recognition of Diamond Head.

I was joking about the Starbuck icon. We don't want to get in trouble with the coffee company. Besides, they are hurting now. Closing stores right and left.
The trees work from me. They are icons of the Pacific Northwest.

I'm not going to make a decision for the group. But, unless you have another image to share, lets use Vaughn's.
I could ask Sean if maybe our icon could be changed monthly. What do you think of that?

Good idea, Robert.

It has already been pointed out that there are many different things that have been associated with this region. Then there is the point that it is truly regional and large and probably deserves more than one image to represent everything that is here. We could even include one of the Washington State Ferries from the Puget Sound as the worlds largest working ferry fleet. Again, a good idea for a changing image for the region. Now, can Sean do it?

I certainly do not see this as a photo "contest". Feel free to use mine, or another...all good to me! The redwoods are definitely on the very southern reaches of the realm!

And it would be fun to change the image occasionally!

I think it looks great! I all think we can rotate icons once we get more in the stack. Otherwise, Vaughn's is there for sometime.
