I went a bit crazy with photography books recently. I have 40 pounds (18 kilograms) worth to return today - all from various photographers.

I enjoyed this small Vivian Maier book the most by far:

Vivian Maier Street Photographer
Edited by John Maloof
Forward by Geoff Dyer
ISBN: 978-1-57687-577-3

I tried to extend my rental. I was disappointed when I could not because someone else is on a the wait list. Hers is one of the lightest books in the group and it has less pages than all but a few of them. Are there any books that you would suggest I pick up next based on this one?

I strongly suggest you take the time to dive into this thread. You'll find tons of suggestions.

Not quite sure what you mean by "based on this one". If it's street photography with interesting characters you are looking for, then anything by Garry Winogrand or Lisette Model might interest you.

Thanks for the link (you too, Pieter).

For example, if someone told me they liked the book Cape Light by Joel Meyerowitz I would recommend they read House Hunting by Todd Hido. If someone told me they enjoy listening to Daft Punk, then I would recommend Justice. That sort of thing.

I broke my bicycle a couple of years ago returning so many books that it fell over and bent the rear wheel. Lesson learned, balance the books in two panniers rather than try to fit them all in one…

So that's what, 4-5 books? 🤣

Every time I pick up a photo book it's always shocking how heavy it is

It was 8 - 9 books in my case. The heaviest book was Joel Meyerowitz's retrospective book. Gigantic.

Oof that's an expensive library bill!

Recently, our local library had a fun exhibit.
Two adjacent sets of display shelves.
One with the largest books in their circulating collection.
And one with the smallest books in their circulating collection.
The Art related books were much more heavily represented amongst the large ones

Kodak Reference Dataguide. There’s been various printings.
I’m not sure where I’ve stored mine, or I would post a picture of it, but it is replete with very concise and practical technical information on all aspects of photography.
