Hello

I've just got my hands on a fairly good condition Rolleiflex 2.8E, shutter fires, lens look good etc.

There is one flaw, the take up Rolleikin spool holder doesn't come out enough to release the take up spool, There was a roll of film stuck in the camera, I had to take the whole rolleikin adapter off to remove the roll.

On further inspection it appears the push button in the centre of the spool holder as been bashed in at some point and isn't going all the way to the top, I've tried pushing it up more and did manage to get it to a point where I could get take up spools in an out again but on trying it again this morning it appears to have moved again.

My question is, does anyone have a replacement part for this camera for sale or could I buy a Rolleikin conversion kit on ebay and replace the frame counter / take up spool I've attached a photo of one I've seen. Or my other option is maybe adding some spacers between the camera and the frame counter just enough to get the plastic spool in and out

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

George

Do you want to use the Rolleikin system? You can swap out the spool for a regular one. Unless you want to use the Rolleikin, a regular spool is simpler.

Another possibility would be to grind off that small end of the spool axle.

I'm not to bothered about the Rolleikin system. There appears to be more Rolleikin kits with a replacment frame counter version on eBay then just the regular spool holder, only ones I've seen are in America (I'm in the UK). Any suggestions on where to find one?

That was also option D but it seems a bit permanent if I want to resell it.

Cheers

I seem to remember that if you remove the spool- screws at the bottom of each exterior hole- you can disassemble the thing. You might find what is bent or broken inside and be able to fix it or remove it.

If you do find a replacement simple spool, be sure it has the screws. Not the same as the ones holding the Rolleikin spool in place, and those screws are often missing from spools being sold and not easy to locate.

Note on spools- the basic functioning and size is the same across decades. Two things change. Exterior design. And on later spools for some Fs, there is a thin flange and groove that allows a tab on the back to lock the spool when the back is closed. I am not certain if these will fit older cameras.

The screws are different?!? I've rarely seen a complete Rolleikin for sale and never one with screws. This one comes with a bolt.

I also need screws if I ever want to put the simple spool back on. This one has 2 screws presumably for the simple spool.
