Has the Epson V850 been going up a lot in price lately?

Im so glad I got my V850 when I did around 5 years ago. I paid $650-700 Canadian for mine (as a refurb unit), and have had no issues with it. I could still sell it for more then double, maybe even triple that amount today if I wanted to. But Im keeping mine, because I know I could never replace it for any cheap price.

When I bought my V850 for $1150 in 2020 ($1700 new today) when I started LF, I retired my perfectly fine V600 to the attic. I noticed that someone was selling a refurbished V600 today for $700. I paid $200 for the new one in 2010. I know if I sell my V600, my V850 will break the next day.

I think what we are probably seeing is that there is some "new old stock" still in the pipeline, but I believe the v850 is no longer being manufactured. I could be wrong.

By the way, some years ago a Kodak employee told me that Kodak had quit making film (by which assumed it meant film for still cameras) I relayed that comment here. I was roundly reviled here. It turned out the Kodak employee was right. Of course, that doesn't mean that I am right about the V850. Time will tell.

It is still a current product in many parts of the world. The US is no longer importing it.

It turned out the Kodak employee was right. Of course, that doesn't mean that I am right about the V850. Time will tell.

They did stop selling the V600. The V850 is the only prosumer film scanner on their website. They make a bunch of other document scanners. But you could be right that they're only selling out of stock of the V850 and not making any more. That will only make my unit worth more in the resale market. I already have a V600 in the attic in storage since getting the V850. The V600 has up to tripled in resale value over what I paid for it.

There's also a $4-5000 unit that can scan film and is used commercially as a document scanner as well- The Epson Expression 13000XL Archival Scanner, with the optional Transparency Unit, can scan film up to 12" x 16.5". For the smaller size film 8x10 and under, the V850 seems to be a better machine. Higher dMax 4.0 vs 3.8.

I got an old V750 that I paid about $700- $800 for. Has the Epson V850 been going up a lot in price lately? This seems pretty high. But I have not been keeping track of them.

I just purchased a V850, new, from Japan for $850 plus $120 shipping and it arrived in 5 business days. I have no idea how they got it to me so fast. I paid tax but no tariffs or import fees. And yes, it was brand new.

That's where mine came from. The V850 is a really good scanner, but its carriers are sure dust magnets.

Can I double check something with you?
When you load your negative into the tray it’s shiny side up, then it gets flipped and placed into the scanner where the shiny side is down, right?

Isn't this GT-X980 model for the Japanese market which uses lower AC power? Will it work properly and safely with American 120AC power?

It works perfectly. Not even a hiccup. The one I posted is the same seller that I got mine. Shipping was faster than almost every U.S. seller that I’ve bought from and if you did run into any issue he’s got a very liberal return policy including return shipping.
