I just received my M2 back from DAG. It's one with the M4 quick load tulip installed by Leica, manufactured in September 1966. As always, DAG did his fantastic servicing. He performed a CLA plus a full overhaul. Don advised that he is very busy; it seems like everyone wants to get their Leicas serviced. Don's charge for all the work was $555.00 plus shipping and insurance. Amazing what the world looks like with a clean VF.

Yeah, he's worked on my M2, M5, and IIIf and they were all pristine when I got them back.

That's a pretty reasonable cost to overhaul an M2. I bought an M2 a couple of years ago that had just come back from an overhaul at Wetzlar and the service receipt was included. Let's just say it was quite a bit more expensive than your DAG overhaul 🙂

Enjoy the camera, Certainly one of Leica's best, especially if 35mm is your preferred focal length.

Congratulations. Don is the man. He's done a few for me...& to top it off besides a CLA....made this M4 Leicavit compatible, when no one else even had the parts!

A week ago, I sent my 1936 IIIa and summar lens to DAG for a full overhaul and shutter repair. Hopefully, in a few short weeks, I'll be able to say the same thing!

Probably the best investment that you have made recently.

enjoy.

Thanks for sharing.
Price is remarkable. If you would have paid twice as much, it would still have been a good decision. This M2 will give you another 10-20 years of happy life.

How long did it take?

Me, too on the positive DAG comments. Only pleasant, professional and prompt experiences.

When I contacted DAG earlier this year, sometime around February, he said 2-3 weeks. Maybe I misunderstood, because I was asking about a lens and body, and 2-3 weeks was for the lens only. What I can say is that I've had my workload triple before and it is overwhelming. I hope things settle into a sustainable pace for him.

Nice to know that mechanical experts are still in demand, and able to make a living from their craft.

I love the work of watchmakers, cobblers, camera technicians.

I got my M2 back from Cameraworks-uk just before Christmas in excellent shape. For a full overhaul they charged me about the same so the price seems about leveled worldwide.
My camera had been six months on wellness holyday there by the way.

Yes, I must have been one of the last few they accepted from abroad and may be the issues we had to get it in had initiated the decision. It took us quite some effort to get the camera through customs. As it seems British customs itself doesn't now their procedures established after Brexit well enough to handle temporary imports without frictions.

another shout out for DAG; he recently put new curtains and did a full cla of a beat up m2 of mine, and it came back purring. He even knocked out some ugly dents in the top plate that I did not expect. I am grateful that there are people like him still around keeping these old things running, and my goal this year is to get more of my cameras worked on while there are still people alive who know how.

I was going through my monthly "fire all the shutters" exercise yesterday and was once again struck by just how flawless the DAG-serviced cameras are. I have a 65yo M2 and a 51yo M5 he serviced and they both act like they're new.

Truly a gifted and capable repairman, well worth the prices charged.

Congrats on your M2 resurrection!

This was CLA only - not work on the cosmetics?

They have issues to get things for temporary import through customs. At least it had been the case with my camera. Export into the EU should work as with every other country as ever. I don't know how reliable the parcel services work in the UK nowerdays however.

As good as anywhere else, we didn't go back to the middle ages when we left Europe. If sent by Royal Mail/Parcelforce the parcel would be delivered by Deutsche Post so how good are they (?) and if sent by UPS it doesn't matter which country it was sent from because it wouldn't be delivered at all.
