I so wish I had taken a photo of the fake hotel they were using when they filmed the recent series Bates Motel!

North Australian Motel, Bowen
Gelatin-silver photograph on Ultrafine Silver Eagle VC FB photographic, image size 16.3cm X 21.4cm, from a Tmax 400 negative
exposed in a Mamiya RB67 single lens reflex camera fitted with a 37mm f4.5 fisheye lens.

The tides of men moving to and from the central Queensland mines are not fussy about temporary accommodation and motel keepers are not fussy about decor; so it seems.

Nice, that's luxury compared to my accommodation when I working in Bowen in the 80's.

I'm finally getting a grip on Raghu's Ferroblend process.
I photographed the old (abandoned at the time) Janion Bld Hotel, ten years ago. It sits downtown Victoria. I made the print this morning. It was photographed on 8x10 HP5.

(New)

The timing for my quick trip out to the Big Bend region of west Texas this week seems to have worked out well for this MSA. I stayed here at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge.

Minolta Maxxum 9, Minolta Maxxum AF 35-105mm, Arista EDU 200, Rodinal Semi-Stand (40 minutes)

Two more old ones. Image in a mirror in the hallway next to our room in a hotel in Halifax. The objects were behind me. I focused on the image in the mirror and part of the ornate frame shows on the bottom and left side. The second one is the courtyard of the Tuneta di Corsano which is a great place to stay if visiting Tuscany, Italy. We have stayed there a couple of times. There are many excellent photography opportunities in the area and the inn has apartments making for a good home base. Both on Delta 400 120. Negative scans. I printed the original on Ilford multi grade fiber base 11x14 (too big for my scanner) and the courtyard on cotton vellum backed with 24ct gold leaf ala Dan Burkholder and had it framed.

This is a new one, shot last week on my way to Idaho. This is the abandoned Purple Sage Motel in Sprague, Washington. Shot with a Ricoh Diacord L with a red filter using Konica Infrared 750nm, Expired 3/2000. Developed in HC-110.

A rather bland pic of the Revival hotel in Baltimore, Maryland, where I stayed this week. On top is a restaurant with outstanding views of a pleasant city. Once it was the private residence of the owner of the B&O railroad (Baltimore and Ohio). A good business to be in back in the day, I assume. ;-)

Not the ideal place to stay but many do.
