I just got a Crown Graphic Special with the Xenar lens and the cable release I've used in my other cameras seems to be a tad too big to fit in the Xenar's port. Does anybody know the port size for this lens?

Thanks for the response. I'm using a 20" standard cable from Adorama (I can't post a link yet). So if I try a different brand standard cable it may work?

What shutter is it in?

Sorry, not sure I understand what you're asking. Still new to LF

The socket ("port") which the end of the release screws into may be damaged.

It doesn't appear to be damaged to my eye, just a little too small to accept the cable release. I will double check though when I get in front of it again.

With large format, the general terminology is that a lens is in a shutter. this is because the lens is usually made up of front and rear cells which screw into the threaded parts at the front and rear.

This picture: http://www.montagu-pollock.co.uk/blog/files/0130-70-1.jpg

shows a shutter with it's lens elements removed. The front thread can be seen.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately I don not know which shutter it is in. Let me see if I can post a picture to help clarify...

Here is a pic of my shutter/lens combo:

Hello;
You have a Compur Synchro #0 shutter, maybe the press model. On the left side is the shutter release lever. Just above is a small bracket where the release cable screws in. On the top of the shutter off to the left is the sync port for firing off the flash. The release cable is not inserted into the body as earlier shutters. Copal press shutters use this same system. Have fun, Steven.

That lens typically came in the press shutter, which I believe was designated 00. It should work fine with your cable release as snederhiser mentioned, but you might need to try a different release.

That is not a Compur Press shutter they are quite different to the Synchro Compur and it's certainly not a #00 size shutter the f4.7 is in a Compur #0, the equivalent 135mm Tessar (an f4.5) came in a Compur #1 as did the 135mm f4.5 Xenar.

Sometimes the cable release socket threads get damaged which may be why the cable release won't fit in this case

Thank you for the responses. I had a chance to look at the release socket last night and there doesn't appear (to my eye) to be any damage or broken off pieces lodged within. I guess at this point I'll purchase another standard size release cable and hope it fits.
