I'm looking for a 35mm F/2.0 or F/2.8. But before I'm going to ebay, I would like to know what the serial numbers are to look out for. What serial numbers indicate the lastest revisions of these lenses?
I think it's easier to identify the earlier lenses by the silver nose ring and the later by the black nose. I feel like the early lenses are more nicely made and have smoother focus.
For the 35mm f2.0:
Earliest version- Silvernose, my copy is serial #106332. Complete markings on the front ring is: "OLYMPUS OM-SYSTEM ZUIKO MC AUTO-W 1:2 f=35mm 106332 Japan"
The next version- No silver rings, my copy is #129334. Complete markings on the front ring is: "OLYMPUS OM-SYSTEM ZUIKO MC AUTO-W 1:2 f=35mm 129334 Japan"
The last revision- (From Olympus OM Systm Handbook) Complete markings on the front ring: "OLYMPUS OM-SYSTEM ZUIKO AUTO-W 35mm 1:2 149052 made in Japan"

In a nutshell. All 35 f2 are MC, oldest version has silver front ring. 35 2.8: 2 versions, oldest are single coated with silver front ring. 2nd version MC but does NOT have "MC" on the name ring. John
